The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die Reactions: Fans Call It a Perfect Ending That Hits All the Emotions

The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die Reactions are still recovering from the emotional ending, that left everyone in tears. The final sequel film to the series is directed by Edward Bazalgette and the screenplay is written by Martha Hillier. Produced by Nigel Marchant, Gareth Neame and Mat Chaplin. Based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, it follows Uhtred of Bebbanburg and his pursuit to unite England.

The ensemble cast of the film includes Alexander Dreymon as Uhtred of Bebbanburg, Mark Rowley as Finan, Arnas Fedaravicius as Sihtric, Harry Gilby as Aethelstan, Laurie Davidson as Ingilmundr, Ross Anderson as Domnal, Ingrid García-Jonsson, James Northcote as Aldhelm, Cavan Clerkin as Father Pyrlig, Tom Christian as Dunstan, Ewan Horrocks, Zak Sutcliffe as Edmund, Nick Wittman as Eamon and Alexandra Tóth.

As the title suggests, the film concludes the 5-season-long series with the prophecy mentioned at the start by Ingrith. She mentions the dream that she saw and reveals the words – ‘seven kings must die, and the woman you love.’ While nobody really pays attention to it, soon after King Edward’s demise news is announced by his third wife Eadgifu and her son Edmund when they come seeking refuge in Northumbria.

With the introduction of the new character Ingilmundr, we got to see how Aethelstan has changed over the course & has become a devout Christian, guided by the new Danish Lord. At first, his intentions are not clear but Uhtred soon witnesses how he has been conspiring with Anlaf to gain control of the whole kingdom by waging war.

For the most part, Aethelstan & Uhtred find themselves on opposite sides, until Ingilmundr decides to unveil his real intentions, leaving Aethelstan regretful. Yet Uhtred sticks to his side, as he has been protecting him from childhood & decides to take on the Danes with all the will & strength they have.

While the battle ends in the favour of Aethelstan, it leaves Uhtred in a bad shape. The ending has left many of the viewers emotional as he turns out to be the seventh King who meets his unfortunate fate, according to the prophecy. However, in the end, he sees all the people that he has fought along & against sitting together at the table & having a good time. This scene makes up a perfect ending to the series & Uhtred’s story as his efforts eventually lead to the unification of England under King Aethelstan.
