Happy Birthday Sulli: Remembering Peach’s Remarkable Songs

Tags: song sulli artist

Happy Birthday Sulli, aka Choi Jin-ri, one of the rebellious Kpop artists the world will cherish forever. Sulli came into Korean entertainment when she was only 11 years old. In 2009 she debuted in one of Korea’s biggest K-pop bands, f(x), and their debut album Pinocchio was a mega-hit.

Jin-ri quit the band in 2015 and debuted as a solo artist in 2018. She actively produced so many blissful songs that, to date, a melody one can’t resist listening to. Jin-ri, widely known as Sulli, is also remembered as Peach after singer IU announced that her Song with the same name was inspired by late K-pop artist Sulli’s natural blush cheeks.

Choi Sulli

Even though it’s already been 4 years since Jin-ri left the world, her fans are still in love with her works that she’s given to the world to be loved. Let us check some of her outstanding songs that will return Peach’s memories.

Sulli’s Beautiful Songs

Goblin

Sulli’s first mini-album Goblin features a D-track with the same name where the artist portrays herself as someone with three personalities. The music video looked aesthetical but had a deeper mental health-related meaning. The lyrics expressed that the artist wants to befriend her and that others needn’t fear her. It deliberately shows how Jin-ri was affected by the hate she received, making her look like the bad guy. The singer wanted people to love her because she isn’t bad as she is portrayed on social media.

Dorothy

Dorothy is another melody song with lyrics that cut deep. Sulli, from the lens of Dorothy goes on to explain how she is full of love but also has flaws like jealousy. She claims herself as both a desert and an iceberg. Moreover, she calls herself someone brilliant but also a coward. Overall, she believes that there’s no hope since the world is full of forgotten dreams. The English translation reads,

“Even if paradise
Doesn’t exist anymore
In the deep water
A prayer for the future.”

However, she calls out on Dorothy because no matter what’s happening around her, Dorothy is still there, meaning there is still hope to hang on. When she repeatedly sings “Dorothy” it’s like a mantra that she’s chanting to convince her inner character that things are going to be fine.

On the Moon

On the Moon is the song that can break you down because Sulli’s voice and lyrics will pull one’s heartstrings. The singer addresses a sad woman, asks her why she looks so sad, and suggests she reach for the moon. She also goes on to share how she has so many regrets and she tries to pray but then her mother stops her. The lyrics precisely translate to,

“The lingering regrets inside a book bring the dark night
And take away the freedom from a cold body
Mom holds both my hands and stops my prayers”

The entire song came from Sulli’s personal experience, and her fans understood how passionately she wrote her story.

Dayfly

While the previous three songs are from her mini-album, Dayfly is a song sung by both Dean and Sulli. This is another song where the artists open up about their trauma, past, and the hardships they’re facing. They also sing about how cruel the world is and how they’re weak to face reality. Sulli performed the chorus where she painfully sang to define that whatever is going on, even if things are hard, she is glad that we all are alive.

A Word From Us

After Sulli’s sudden death, the K-pop industry and her fans were shackled by the loss. She, in fact, was very open about her hardships, yet her close ones really couldn’t help it out, and neither did they do anything wrong. So ensure to take care of those you love and most importantly yourself.

Remembering this beautiful soul, let’s support every artist and shun the hate they’re receiving. Feel free to drop your birthday wishes for Peach in the comment section, and stay strong!
