In today’s Episode, the home cooks are seen walking in the open fields, which turns out to be Bhaikaka Krishi Kendra in Gujarat. The three judges welcome them for their new challenge in the open space. The contestants will have to make a brunch spread, a meal which can be defined as something between breakfast and lunch.

The Judges reveal that it will be a team challenge where the 9 contestants will be divided into two teams. They let the home cooks decide on two team captains and among the people who haven’t been a captain once, Kamaldeep and Nayanjyoti are chosen to lead. Followed by division into teams with Kamaldeep asked to choose a team member and vice versa.

Kamaldeep chooses Santa, Deepa, Priyanka and Suvarna. Nayanjyoti chooses Aruna, Gurkirat and Sachin. But the number of members are not equal and that cues the judges to introduce a wild card entry of an eliminated contestant – Urmila Baa. She has been one of the most loved contestant this season and since they are in Gujarat, her presence will only add to the team she joins. Thus, she joins Nayanjyoti’s team, which had one less member.

For the challenge they were given 90 minutes to cook and they have to make minimum of 4 dishes. Pantry was available at all times and two team members were asked to get the ingredients from there, while the other two were sent to pick up fresh ingredients right from the soil. Mr Sarvdaman Patel, an agronomist accompanied the contestants and told them how to procure without hampering other crops.

Soon after the teams started curating their menus based on the ingredients they had picked and with the fresh produce at their hands, today’s dishes might finally make the audience who complain about lack of vegetarian food, happy. At first, Kamaldeep’s yellow team seemed to be the sorted one, with everyone busy making their dishes.

While Nayanjyoti’s Pink team was deemed chaotic with two captains, as Aruna was seen delegating instead. Also, they were making a lot of dishes which even confused them. But as time went on, issues started to arise in yellow team as well, since Kamaldeep was not able to express her opinions confidently.

Once the time was over, the judges asked the Pink team to present their dishes first. They had made a farmhouse pizza, ponkh salad, thepla turned into cauliflower open taco, shrikhand with granola, stir fry chicken, glazed carrot gremalota and an apple with orange drink. The judges instantly applauded the colourful spread which they compared to a cookbook pictures. They especially liked the carrots while other ingredients had some issues with seasoning.

Team yellow made kahwa, lemongrass lentil soup, steamed garlic butter fish, baked cauliflower with sauce, seed cracker with mutkule, thecha cheese dip and beetroot showstopper as dessert. Contrary to the other team, the judges commented that their spread had very dull colours and out of all the dishes they like the seed cracker one. Other dishes like the cauliflower was not cooked well and the chilli in dessert was not appreciated.

Final Thoughts: MasterChef India Season 7 Episode 36

If it’s not evident from the comments of the judges then the Pink team ended up winning the challenge and they will be given a big advantage, which will be revealed in next episode. However, if you were wondering that Urmila Baa will continue to be in the show going forward, then no, she was invited just for today and judges bid her farewell as well.

The glazed carrots were announced the dish of the day. Today’s episode went in the exact same direction as one would have expected when the teams were divided. For a change Nayanjyoti and Priyanka were in different teams but as time progressed, chances of Pink team seem to increase. However, bringing Baa back was of no use, since she was barely highlighted nor the team took any help from her. They could have easily made teams of 3 and do the same challenge.
