Killer Music Video: SHINee’ Key Races Through Fire in ‘Gasoline’ Repackage Album

Killer Music Video is here to bring the 80s synth-pop sound back. With fiery visuals, the track is the lead single of SHINee Key’s new re-packaged album of the same name. This lead single and another track titled Heartless are added to the first studio album ‘Gasoline’, which was released in August 2022.

The re-packaged album contains 14 tracks in total – the first is the lead track Killer and the newly added B-side Heartless along with Easy and the 11 tracks from the previous album – 가솔린 (Gasoline), Bound, Villain (Feat. 제노 of NCT), Burn, Guilty Pleasure, G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time), I Can’t Sleep, Ain’t Gonna Dance, Another Life, Delight and Proud.

Previously, Minho, who is another member of the group SHINee, released his first solo album titled Chase. He was the last member to release his solo music, which connects all the member’s debut albums, ie Taemin’s Ace, the late Jonghyun’s Base, Key’s Face and Onew’s Voice

The Killer Music Video starts off with an upside-down burning car, which seems similar to the scene in Minho’s Chase music video where he lost his lover in a car accident. However, the scene zooms out and we see Key on a motorbike and standing amidst the fire flames. Soon after the music starts, we see the singer in black and white attire, as he sings to his past lover to stop haunting him.

The lyrics talk about breaking off a relationship which was not working for both of them but he still feels imprisoned by the thoughts of his lover. He feels it was cruel of him to break away but it was needed for both of their sake since it had become toxic. However, while looking at the choreography of the song many references to previous tracks can be found.

Within 36 minutes into the video, the step where Key is standing straight and swaying his arms, while the backup dancers are crouched below – is the same as Gasoline. Similarly, the scene at 3 minutes and 4 seconds where an eye spirals down to transition into a dance breakdown scene.

In his comeback live video, Key gave some spoilers about the video, where he shared that the choreography is made by Kasper and the move in the hook is like a spider crawling on the shoulder – which he finds the easiest. Another detail to look out for is how the choreo for the word ‘Thriller’ reflects and reminds of Michael Jackson’s famous song of the same name.

This uptempo dance song with a retro sound also has an extensive costume design, which cannot be missed. The first outfit is a mix of white textured jacked with printed jeans and accessorised with a pearl necklace and a jewelled glove in just one hand – could be a reference to Michael Jackson. Second is the black sequined jacket with black pants and a shimmery shirt. Here also, he is wearing a black glove in one hand.

Third is the blue furry jacket with a beret and long mullet hairstyle and in the end, he is seen wearing a black and gold jacket with the white outfit from the earlier scenes. Also, a notable detail is the ear-like wings on his bike helmet, all of which look pretty cool and boast of SHINee Key’s impeccable style.
