After a challenging immunity pin task in the last episode, the contestants have a tough challenge waiting for them yet again. Today they will be serving 30 people at once through a four-course meal. The cuisine for the task is Italian and they have to present all the dishes that are made with Italian techniques and found in the culture.

It was supposed to be a team challenge, with the 14 contestants divided into 7 Vs 7. The first team captain was automatically chosen as the person who won the immunity pin, Aruna. To choose the second team captain, the selected 7 contestants from the last challenge had to compete for the title.

They were presented with three types of Italian pasta – Trofie, Lorighittas and Malloreddus. Chef Ranveer showed how the shape of the pasta was made and the contestants had to create the same in under 2 minutes. They were first asked to make Malloreddus, which is a spinach-based dough shaped with a fork. Santa wasn’t able to create the exact, and thus she was disqualified.

Then they had to make Lorighittas which had beetroot dough and was particularly hard to shape. Lastly, Trofie was asked to make, which indicated a clear winner – Priyanka. The two captains were given different colours. Team Green’s captain was Priyanka and team red captain was Aruna.

Aruna was given the chance to choose her team members first and she chose – Deepa, Nayanjyoti, Gurkirat, Vineet, Avinash and Kamaldeep. While Priyanka chose – Santa, Sachin, Priya, Dyuti, Suvarna and Yashu. Initially, both teams decided on the menu together and they were given 150 minutes to create the dishes for 30 guests. The guests will have both team colour coins and on the number of coins a winning team will be selected.

The captains divided their teams according to courses and everything seemed to be going smoothly, however as time passed, team green seemed lost in its tracks. Meanwhile, team red was right on time and was getting ready to plate their appetiser menu. While Aruna was delegating everything, Priyanka was too busy making the starter with Priya that other courses were not being checked by her.

After much pressure, panic and struggle both dishes were served to the guests and the judges. The green team made a vegan version of grilled Polenta with cashew sauce and balsamic vinegar reduction and team red made zucchini courgette with ricotta, olive and marinara sauce.

The judges complimented the neat plating and vibrant colours of the ingredients. They also noted how the teams represented north and south Italy with their dishes. From the guest reviews, most of the people preferred team green’s dish over the other dish.

Final Thoughts: MasterChef India Season 7 Episode 13

Today’s challenge was basically a leadership challenge to see who can lead their teams better. In terms of cooking, they all are masters of it but to be able to give the required results under all the deadlines and pressure is the main task, which has to be delegated by the captain.

While Priyanka trusted her team members to work accordingly on time, she failed to supervise the whole process and manage everything. Aruna on the other hand was good at supervising but she wasn’t good at communicating with the members and helping where it was needed. Even in the preview, there seem to be some differences between her and Nayanjyoti, who was tasked with the second course.

Overall, out of all the challenges this episode was the most pressuring and as a viewer, even I could feel the panic of serving the guests, as the hands of the clock were running away. Tomorrow, we will see who eventually wins the challenge by enduring the tough pressure.
