Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana

Starring Kunal Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Huma Qureshi, Vinod Nagpal, Rajesh Sharma and many more, it is a celebration of family, reconciliation and a lovely Lohri scene that is a must-watch. A story of a quirky Punjabi family in pursuit of a secret recipe that will enable them to reclaim their pride & wealth!

The Film shows Omi Khurana’s London dream has just ended. On the run from a dangerous UK gangster who he owes money, Omi returns to his native village in Punjab, pretending to be a well-heeled London lawyer. Much has changed since Omi ran away from home a decade back after stealing money from his doting grandfather, Darji.

Tanu Weds Manu

This film is meant to be on this list, owing to its peppy high-energy songs that are a must at parties, weddings or even Lohri celebrations. Adding on to the quirky and hilarious story, it’s a complete family entertainer.

In this film, London-based Dr Manoj Sharma returns home to Delhi and travels to Chaman Ganj, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh to meet his prospective bride, Tanuja Trivedi. But he gets a rude awakening when Tanuja tells him that she already has a boyfriend and plans to marry him even against her parents’ wishes. Manoj informs his parents, and they set about to see other girls for their son, albeit in vain, as he has his heart set on Tanuja, and is all set to return back unmarried.

Manoj and Tanuja are fated to meet again in Kapurthala, Punjab while attending a friend’s marriage. While Manoj hopes to win Tanuja’s heart – he will face more rejection when she enlists his assistance to elope with another male. Watch this film on Apple TV+.

Veer Zaara

When talking about the playlist for Lohri, the song Lo aayi Lohri ve can be heard within a few minutes. And this beautiful love story starring Shah Rukh Khan and Priety Zinta is already a favourite among the public and watching with family is always a good choice.

It follows Squadron Leader Veer Pratap Singh, a rescue pilot with the Indian Air Force. In the line of duty, he comes across a stranded Zaara a girl from Pakistan who has come to India to fulfil her surrogate mother’s dying wish. Veer saves her life and his life is never the same again.

Twenty-two years later Saamia Siddiqui (Rani Mukerji), a Pakistani human rights lawyer on her first case, finds herself face to face with an ageing Veer Pratap Singh. He has languished in a Pakistan jail cell for 22 years and has not spoken to anyone all these years. And no one knows why. Maachis

As a child, the song Chappa Chappa from Maachis was a celebration starter and people would dance around the fire, singing to this song. Starring Chandrachur Singh, Om Puri, Tabu, and Jimmy Sheirgill, directed by Gulzar, the film portrays the circumstances surrounding the rise of the Sikh insurgency in Punjab in the 1980s.

The song Laal Ghagra from this film joyfully celebrates Lohri and other songs like Sauda Khara Khara go perfectly with the festive vibe. Also, the story of couples trying to conceive a child can be quite relatable for many.

The story follows two couples with the same surnames who pursue in-vitro fertilization and wait for their upcoming babies. Trouble ensues when they find that the sperms of each couple have been mixed with each other. Watch this film on Amazon Prime Video.

Son of Sardar

Son Of Sardar is a remake of the Telugu movie, Maryada Ramanna and shows the grand celebration of the festival in the song Tu kamal di. Starring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Juhi Chawla, the story revolves around two families, whose patriarchs killed each other many years ago.

Their respective sons, Jaswinder Randhawa and Balwinder Singh are sworn enemies. Jaswinder has been in hiding in London, whereas Balwinder, is waiting for his return to Punjab so he can avenge the death of his father. Despite the serious plot, the film has some funny and entertaining moments and can be a good family entertainer. Watch this film on Amazon Prime Video.
