Myths have been a constant in many cultures. The Shahmaran is a half-woman, half-snake being in Middle-Eastern mythology. It is buried in betrayal as the protagonist acknowledges it in her narration. In the series, the tale involves two people destined to awaken a beast like no other. The trailer starts off by showing us the protagonist, Şahsu, waking in a cold sweat from a concerning dream, which is presumably a vision from the past or the future. We hear a narration of a story that warns the human not to fall in love with the Shah of the Snakes.

The vision has been plaguing her for quite some time and she decides that it is time to deal with her grandfather, following the compelling nature of her vision and the nature of her family history. The story only corroborates the fact that she is destined for something bigger that is related to the betrayal. She wouldn’t just be facing her grandfather but something much more intriguing.

She makes her way to the water and the scene cuts to a person lying naked on a slab followed by a shot of the Shah of the Snakes. It then cuts to a shot of a mysterious man standing at the edge of the cliff, from where he free-falls into the water, a brilliant shot cutting to the woman in the water with her eyes closed. She is later seen with her eyes open struck with some kind of possessed energy. These shots all have a connection, foreshadowing a meeting and a union of the characters.

It is then followed by a man speaking to her about their family’s bond with each other and the vendetta that is yet to come. There are people around who know about this prophecy and are trying their level best to warn each other of its destructive nature. However, the mysterious man, Maran and the protagonist seem to fall in love and create a passionate relationship.

Their union is set to unlock something in Maran. When they fall in love, the Shahmaran will be reborn. There is a recurring motif of the naked person on the white slab, which does indicate that there is something being unleashed. There is some symbolism that there is something stirring from its long slumber. There are also motifs of animals dying and an unrelated woman walking across the field where this has taken place, indicating that there is great destruction in store.

The protagonist has no idea that there is something like the prophecy happening, all she wants to do was confront her grandfather. Maran painfully reminds her that the prophecy is real and legend has already been set in motion. Later, Maran’s eyes start glowing and indicates that he also thought it was a legend before seeing it with his own eyes. The protagonist is thrust into a position to rise to the occasion and take matters into her own hands.

The other players involved haven’t been shown to have any connection with the protagonists currently, but at some point, it can be expected that these people come together for a final showdown.

All of this will make sense when the first episode of Shahmaran will release on Netflix on January 20, 2023.
