RRR (2022)

With a screenplay written and directed by SS Rajamouli, it has been one of the most talked about films of the year 2022. From various nominations to now winning the Best Song award at Golden Globes 2023, for the song Naatu Naatu and even a prospective oscar nomination, everyone has high hopes.

In this film, a fearless warrior on a perilous mission comes face to face with a steely cop serving British forces in this epic saga set in pre-independent India. Starring N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris.

Baahubali: The Beginning (2015)

Co-written and directed by Rajamouli, the film is set in ancient India in the kingdom of Mahishmati. Where while pursuing his love, Shivudu learns about the conflict-ridden past of his family and his legacy. He must now prepare himself to face his newfound arch-enemy. Soon after its release, it left the audience with the most suspenseful cliffhanger and amazing visuals with an engrossing storyline that enthralled the audiences.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)

After waiting for almost two years, the audiences get their answer to the question – Why did Kattappa stab Baahubali? In this sequel, having uncovered the truth of his legacy, Mahendra Baahubali (Shivudu), avenges the murder of his father, vowing revenge against the tyrannical ruler of the Mahishmati Kingdom, his uncle, Bhallaladeva.

The interesting fact about these films is that the story was written by Rajamouli’s father – V. Vijayendra Prasad, who randomly told him a story about Sivagami, a woman who carries a baby in her hand while crossing a river, and a few years later about Kattappa, which formed the plot for his film, which he co-related with Indian epic. Eega/Makkhi (2012)

If there’s one genre where the director aces it above his counterparts then it’s fantasy and how he introduces the romance angle in his stories. Similarly, this is one film that certainly left many viewers baffled and intrigued many to watch. Starring Sudeepa, Nani, and Samantha Prabhu, a murdered man reborn as a housefly seek revenge on the jealous businessman who killed him — and a chance to reunite with the love of his life.

It also won two National Film Awards (Best Feature Film in Telugu and Best Special Effects), including many others. Watch this film on Netflix.

Maryada Ramanna (2010)

Starring Sunil, Saloni, Nagineedu, Brahmaji, Rao Ramesh, Supreet, Venu Gopal, Prabhakar and Kanchi, in this film, Ramu returns to his hometown to sell a piece of land he owns and falls in love with a young woman only to find out later that her parents want him dead and he can only survive as long as he remains in the house.

This film was such a hit that it was re-made several times in different languages and you can watch it on Amazon Prime Video.

Magadheera (2009)

It is another fantasy action film from the director, featuring Ram Charan, Srihari, Kajal Aggarwal and Dev Gill. Based on the reincarnation story, in 1609 AD, Mitravinda, a princess, and Kala Bhairava, the warrior that she loved, die. 400 years later, the warrior is reincarnated as Harsha, a motorcycle stuntman. He brushes hands with a girl and sparks fly as he begins to recall his past life.

Knowing that he is destined to love this young woman, he sets about trying to identify her. Indu does not remember her past life and keeps Harsha at a distance; playing tricks on him until she gets to know him better. However, just as the two begin to fall in love, a sinister force from their shared past returns! You can watch this film on MX Player.

Yamadonga (2007)

Introducing another interesting storyline, in this film Raja, an orphaned thief, dies while helping a gang kidnap a wealthy heiress, Mahi, in exchange for money. He then lands in Yamlok and fights with Yama, the god of death, to get his life back. It stars NT Rama Rao Jr, Mohan Babu, Priyamani, and Mamta Mohandas while Ali and Brahmanandam play supporting roles.

Vikramarkudu (2006)

The film stars Ravi Teja and Anushka Shetty, for whom this became a breakthrough film. The story follows a thief who comes across a little girl who claims that he is her father. When he learns the truth about his look-alike, an honest policeman, he decides to turn a new leaf and help get rid of the local goon.

We see a significant pattern in his film, where the protagonist finds something peculiar about himself or his past and decides to turn his life around for good. you can watch this film on Amazon Prime Video.

Chatrapathi (2005)

The film stars Prabhas and Shriya Saran while Shafi, Bhanupriya, and Pradeep Rawat play supporting roles. Following the story of Shivaji, a Sri Lankan Tamil, lands in Vizag after political upheaval in his hometown. The situation worsens when his jealous stepbrother enters his life. The film highlighted the plight of a mother, losing her kid and the perspective of an immigrant in a new place.

Sye (2004)

The story follows Prudhvi and Shashank, leaders of two rival student groups, who decide to join hands to defeat a mafia leader. They must beat his team in a rugby match to win back their wrongfully obtained college ground. Starring Nithiin and Genelia D’Souza while Shashank and Pradeep Rawat play other crucial roles.

Simhadri (2003)

Simhadri was adopted by Ram Bhupal Verma and raised in his family. Soon, they start sharing a father-son-like bond. Ram Bhupal also has a granddaughter, Kasturi who has liked Simhadri for a long time. When her grandfather comes to know about her love for Simhadri, he cannot wait for the both of them to get married. As he begins making arrangements, he finds out that Simhadri goes to meet a mentally challenged girl in an asylum and could probably be in love with her.

Student No: 1 (2001)

Starting his career with the actor Jr NTR, in this film, Aditya pursues a law degree in a notoriously infamous college and falls in love with a fellow student Anjali. But a ruffian Satish is also in love with Anjali! This leads to an aggressive standoff between the two. But soon we find out the backstory that led Aditya to study law and his path to repentance and righteousness.
