First to join today’s order of business pitches is ‘TeaFit’, founded by Jyoti Bharadwaj. It’s a healthy beverage brand that seeks to target the India’s population that has been turned into a perennial sugar addict due to the ever-present artificially sweetened drinks, thus making India the no. 1 nation in diabetes statistics. With a healthy and honest approach, ‘TeaFit’ puts out its own natural formulation of 15 herbs, producing an unsweetened brew with green and black tea. The brand was founded in 2021 and has now garnered the trust of 20,000+ customers.

With the help of online retailers and their own website, they sell bottles of their heathy concoction, sweetened through the aid of natural ingredients like barley, cinnamon and liquorice at the MRP of Rs. 120 per bottle. Jyoti’s ask of the day is for Rs. 50 Lakhs for 3% Equity.

For her pitch, her kids accompany her, whom she introduces as her joint partners through it all. Having learnt from an early stage about beverages kicking up diabetes due to her both parents tackling the same disease, she always stayed away from the beverage aisle. During her back and forth trips to Japan due to her family’s situation, Jyoti discovered better and healthier alternatives and was inspired by them to make a change in India as well.

Her company’s last year profits amount to Rs. 78,000, with the sales for the 2021-2022 timeframe standing at Rs. 15.5 lakhs. 35% of the sales are carried on via online platforms, while 65% remain offline. On being asked about the high MRP, Jyoti claims that her team is planning to introduce sachets in the future and other options to cut down to a minimal amount, but even as of now, she hands out a precise breakdown of all the making costs involved in the process which make up for the same.

Winning the sharks over the clarity for her goal, she also reveals that her first investor was her own mother-in-law, Dr. Urmila Pandey, who signed her first cheque of Rs. 10 lakhs from her savings for 0.5% investment in the company.

Coming down to the offers laid down by the sharks, Namita pulls out of the scene right after seeing Vineeta, Peyush and Aman’s ambitious response. Peyush is ready to hand out a cheque for Rs. 50 lakhs for 20% equity. Coming in close, Vineeta joins forces with Anupam to offer Rs. 50 lakhs for 25% equity. Aman, on the other hand, believes there’s no raise the stakes and puts forth his claim for Rs. 50 lakhs for 10% equity, which is instantly followed by the former sharks making counter-offers and matching the deal.

Jyoti tries her hand at negotiating further, while hoping to bring all four sharks onboard. Putting forth a new ask of Rs. 50 lakhs for 8% equity, which at first doesn’t meet Anupam’s nod of approval, but eventually is sealed as the final deal with all four of them – Aman, Peyush, Vineeta and Anupam joining in for Rs. 50 lakhs, 8% equity.

Thereafter, Aniket Doegar comes in strong with ‘Haqdarshak’, a mobile and web platform that educates people about their governmental scheme applications and eligibility. While government schemes for people residing in the rural areas of India are on the rise, the lack of awareness on the matter is still one of the prime setbacks for this design. Through ‘Haqdarshak’, Aniket’s team seeks to help and support people through and through every step along the way during documentation and other steps of the official process.

Hoping to soar high, Aniket comes forth with the vision of helping 90 crore people in the nation to receive their dues, and for that to be a success, his ask of the day is for Rs. 1 crore against 0.5% equity. He goes on to detail the challenges that arise for the people, which further cuts them off from these services and welcomes on stage one of his agents, Jyoti Mule, who along with the rest of the team offers her fellow tribal community in the village with door to door deliveries of knowledge on the issue.

She also helps demonstrate the working of their online application that helps the customers determine their eligibility for various schemes through a questionnaire of 40-50 questions. Having digitised these government schemes in such a way, Jyoti alone has helped 1 lakh people now, while the company itself has employed 200 people, with 3000 active agents out in the field, and an all-women CXO (Chief Executive Officer) team.

The amount raised during the first round of investments was Rs. 1.23 crores, and presently their revenue model follows the B2B approach by reaching out to corporates, who then sign contracts with them. With sales during the 2021-2022 cycle recorded at Rs. 15.5 crores, Anupam later points out that their endeavour is a “high volume, low margin business”, to which Aniket agrees, and further highlights the EBITDA standing at 7%.

His goal eventually is to establish the greatest social security company in India, while also wanting to change the user experience for the customers based in the rural settings. Peyush grants him the offer of Rs. 1 crore for 2% equity, while Anupam keeps up with the idea that margin will always be one of the biggest challenges to their business model.

Haqdarshak’s agent, Jyoti Mule joins the pitch.

Additional, Namita and Aman also forward a matching offer, but introduce debt to it. Their offer is for Rs. 50 lakhs for 1% equity and Rs. 50 lakhs debt at 10% equity. Aniket presents a counter offer to bring them all together under the same roof for Rs. 1 crore, 1.5% equity. Peyush raises the stake and the deal is confirmed for Rs. 1 crore, 2% equity.

The third team of the day is ‘Bhaskar’s Puranpoli Ghar’, which brings on its three show runners – Bhaskar KR, Vittal Shetty, & Saurabh Choudhary. Puranpoli is sweet dish, especially famous in Maharashtra during the festival season. However, finding good quality Puranpoli is not an easy task during off season, which is why their business has brought about an around the year live and quick service restaurant with 400 varieties of snacks, without any sort of artificial means being added. Their ask of the day is for Rs. 75 lakhs for 1% equity.

Bhaskar KR is the founding face of the brand who started supplying the snack on his bicycle in Karnataka, but now he’s collaborated with the other two managers, one handling the marketing and the other operation, to sell the same recipe in Maharashtra. outlet + online suppliers – no longer have to wait for the seasonal celebrations to eat it. In addition to their ongoing Maharashtrian side of the business, Bhaskar ji also has the complete ownership of his establishments of the same brand franchises in Karnataka.

Shark give the sumptuous delight a taste, and even Peyush’s inner Delhiite can’t have enough of the Maharashtrian speciality. The team details out the statistics of the 4 outlets under their Maharashtrian setup (the Karnataka business is a separate issue and isn’t tied in with the day’s deal).

Having opened up their first outlet in Thane in 2021, which remains to be their own, the other three recent openings have flourished out as franchises. The sharks notice that the team’s individual counterparts already have their separate businesses ongoing at the side as well, as Vittal Shetty eventually opens I about his other engagements. This ultimately turns up as a major warning for the sharks. Taking turns, they start backing out, but applaud Bhaskar ji’s growth from having worked as a server in a restaurant during his initial phase of life, and now having become the owner of a grand and victorious business.

Vineeta also points out that at the fundamental level, their venture is flourishing well enough and that don’t need any investments at the moment. Peyush encourages them to open their own outlets instead of branching out via franchises, especially when their return rate has been phenomenal and they’ve all secured the investments they made early on. The other sharks can’t turn a blind eye to the arising conflict of interest due to their multiple side-businesses and they wish them even more success, having been inspired by Bhaskar ji’s life story.

Shark Tank India Season 2 Episode 6 Review

We can see that the show is trying everything in its capacity to get back on track with the business deals, and the latest episode has yet again brought on teams that inspire courage in the budding entrepreneurs of India. Foot notes are often left behind by either one of the sharks, explaining business jargon to the viewers who may not otherwise be familiar with the terminology, and it’s a good touch.

Throughout the episodes, we’ve majorly witnessed Indian brands promoting their food-based enterprises, but the latest discovery of ‘Haqdarshak’ team has shined through as a diamond in the rough, emerging as one of the most providing business models that seeks to help bridge the gap between citizens of the country and their own rights, which have at times rather transformed into privileges due to the distancing setbacks hindering the path.
