Tokyo Revengers Season 2 Episode 1 Review: A Lifechanging Revelation

The first Episode of the 2nd season of this much-loved series is finally here, and we saw the story unfold in new directions. So, how did this episode fare anyways? Find out below.

Tokyo Revengers Season 2 Episode 1 Overview

Still From Tokyo Revengers Season 2

When the first season ended, fans felt endless frustration because of the massive cliffhanger of the last episode that left many questions unanswered. This is why the hype around this anime is insane, and we are sure it will live up to it.

Director Hatsumi Kouichi, who also worked in anime like

Darling in the FranXX, Deadman Wonderland, Hunter x Hunter, etc, will handle the direction for the series. Studio LIDENFILMS which handled the first season of this anime will be returning for this season. They have worked on Koi to Uso, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, Yofukashi no Uta, etc.

The opening song will be White Noise (ホワイトノイズ), performed by Official HIGE DANdism, and the ending theme will be Kizutsu kedo, Aishiteru. (傷つけど、愛してる。), performed by TUYU.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Tokyo Revengers Season 2 Episode 1 Review and Recap – When Will The Misery End

I had pretty high hopes for this season because the first season of this franchise ended up being more than what I expected it to be. This episode picks up from where the last episode of season 1 ended and delivers some of the best twists of this anime.

Everyone thought that Takemichi was dead when Kisaki shot him after calling him his hero. But surprisingly, he gets saved by Kazutora, who then becomes Takemichi’s and our source of information regarding what is going on in this timeline. And after all that he reveals, it is not an understatement to say that the present timeline is the worst for our protagonist.

The gang that Takemichi and Mikey were so proud of, ended up becoming shallow and messed up. They partake in every illegal activity, including murder. Not only that, but apparently, Mikey is the one who changed to the point of influencing Toman adversely.

One would still think that even if the gang had become rotten, Takemichi must have managed to save Hinata as he wished to. Sadly, that did not happen. Worse even, the mystery behind her death is so shocking that it not only staggers Takemichi but us alike, who never even thought that something like this could happen.

This timeline definitely sets up many new mysteries. First of all, why are Mikey and Mitsuya missing? Why did Draken get executed? And why is Kisaki so obsessed with Takemichi to the point of killing his ex-girlfriend in every timeline? Is it perhaps related to a past that they both share and something that Takemichi has forgotten? Well, it is something only time will tell.

Still From Tokyo Revengers Season 2

Story-wise, Tokyo Revengers is as emotional and suspenseful as ever. It effectively keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you anxious for its characters. The only critique that will come out of this episode is that the animation could have been better.

Verdict

The first episode of this anime landed pretty strong, and hopefully, it will go on to deliver an excellent watch. The start was rather emotional, and throughout the episode, you feel Takemichi’s despair.

This episode again ended on a cliffhanger, because of which you would definitely want to wait for the next episode. Watch this anime on Hulu.
