There is no bound no the praise that we have for Yook Sung-jae, but what comes along is the feeling of sadness that we have for his character Lee Seung-cheon. We might as well call him a tragic character with the way he was punished for using the spoon because, at the end of the day, his punishment was still the worst.

Still doubting this? Well then let us give you 4 reasons why Lee Seung-cheon was a tragic character in The Golden Spoon.

His Love Life

While this does not apply to the first time he used the spoon, from the moment he got together with Na Ju-hee he knew that he didn’t want to go back to being Hwang Tae-yong. However, it was because of Yeo-jin that he went back to that life and had to painfully watch her go to someone else while he stayed as the person who is her friend.

If that was not enough then he also forgot who she was at the end of the drama and appeared in front of her like someone she knew but not someone she recognised.

The 10 Years

I have to say that what Seung-cheon experienced in the 10 years that he spent in the U.S might as well have been worse than what Hwang Tae-yong experienced his whole life. Those scars and the scene where he was on the hospital bed wrapped in bandages were not easy for us either and these simple scenes were enough to tell us what happened during that time.

And to think that he had to struggle each day for his life while Tae-yong enjoyed a much carefree life back home just makes it worse.

His Punishment

While the other characters on the show who used the spoon experienced a punishment that was more like ripping off a bandage, Seung-cheon was punished time and again. He saw his father get into an accident, then also saw him die after finding out Seung-cheon’s truth, then ended up losing all his memories and becoming a gardener; everything happened like a slow process which only became worse each time.

His Timings

I have to say, Seung-cheon has got the worst timing when it comes to exchanging his life. His first time exchanging is followed by his father becoming a changed man which never happened before while his second exchange was after President Na’s death. And let me not even get to the third time which just made him lose his memories.

Seung-cheon definitely has the worst timing and this only makes him more pitiful while making it hard for us to get angry at his choices.
