Netflix’s latest Brazilian Movie Someone Borrowed (Esposa de Aluguel) brought in a quick romance with an unexpected twist and a predictable ending. Directed by Cris D’Amato, the movie stars Caio Castro, Thati Lopes, Patricya Travassos, Danielle Winits, and Bruna Louise, alongside other cast members.

Someone Borrowed revolves around an adamant bachelor who hires an actress to play the role of his fiance in order to fulfil his mother’s dying wish. However, he does this not just for her wish but also to make sure that he isn’t deleted from her will.

Someone Borrowed starts off with a professional bachelor Luiz who knows the rules of dating and is aware of when to get out of a relationship. Being a pro at his love game, he is sure to never settle down for a proper relationship. That is until his mother announces that she has found out to have a time limit and wishes for him to get married.

Having asked all his flings and girlfriends for a favour only to be rejected, his friend suggests an actress, Lina, who can be his fake girlfriend. And so the lies begin and give us an unexpected twist with an ending we all know about.

The movie is an entertainer, even though it follows the predictable route, it is still fun to watch. The funny exchange between the characters and the tattling comedy between siblings also comes out which seems quite relatable for many of us.

While their behaviour as a loving couple in front of his family seems quite fake even to the viewers makes me wonder how they passed the family radar, I did enjoy the fast pace of this movie. It goes without saying that when such romcoms avoid dragging their plot, it becomes more enjoyable, especially with such fun protagonists.

Lina is the wild girl whose free nature is what captures Luiz’s attention, but this is something that brings forth an unpredictable and unstable future. The story at the end of the day is more like a rushed love story that appeases the audience and brings them a moment of entertainment.

Altogether this was a movie that is a pure fictional love story that just happens along the way with bits and pieces of comedy to keep us all entertained.
