Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 7 Review- Finally, Something Positive

Well, this was surprising. After mercilessly raining over this season’s parade for the entirety of its current runtime, I did not expect to be surprised by a decent episode after that. This was a highly competent episode that, while employing a lot of tropes of this particular adaptation, was entertaining and successful enough in doing that and turned out to be a pleasurable experience. It just did what it was doing before, but a little more competently this time, which deserves to be appreciated. Things are looking up for the show, and no one could be happier about it than I.

The newest test (because you knew there was going to be one as soon as the last one ended) was nuanced and logical, unlike almost everything else that we have seen in this season so far. There are some tangible improvements in Class 1-D that make them seem more capable than they were in the past, and this test holds the potential to finally be the one which nets them a little glory after everything bad that has happened to them this entire season.

Not only that, but the Kushida-Horikita rivalry is heading in an entirely unanticipated but quite interesting direction. From the first look, it was going to be “either she gets kicked out, or I do” from both sides. However, Horikita showed some major growth and camaraderie, alongside intelligence that she always lacked before this. She decided what many people might consider extraordinarily stupid but would help her a lot in the grand scheme of things if she managed to get it right. We are probably headed for a confrontation between them at some point anyway, so it would still be nice to explore some options.

There was also a surprising occurrence at the start of Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 7, which could very well be linked to what happened at the end of the last episode, as it involved the student council president. When the cards start getting revealed for this season, it is not entirely unreasonable to assume this might be an ace in the hole and was another example of this show creating intrigue the right way. Even though the pacing was very fast in this episode, like the rest of this season, fewer consequential things were being glossed over here, making it an easier watch.

Speaking of consequential, there is another thing in the works for this season, the introduction of a supposed teenage romance story for Ayanokoji, which featured involvement from him and a new character, Sato. This could go a lot of ways, especially with Karuizawa being involved, but all of them are fascinating at the very least and highly entertaining at their best. Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 7 put Ayanokoji front and centre once again as his sociopathic nature and fearsome intellect might finally be getting recognised, even if he hasn’t demonstrated any of that the entire season.

Verdict

Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 7 was a return to form for the series, which appears to be only good for about half a season each time it comes around, but we don’t have much evidence to support that theory. Still, this was a foot in the right direction and a surprisingly entertaining episode.
