Resident Evil Ending Explained: Is Billie Alive? Will There Be Season 2 For the Show?

Based on the Japanese video game franchise of the same name, Resident Evil is a sci-fi horror and action series released on Netflix. It is created by Andrew Dabb and stars Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker, Jade and Billie’s father, Ella Balinska as Jade Wesker, Tamara Smart as young Jade Wesker, Adeline Rudolph as Billie Wesker, Siena Agudong as young Billie Wesker, Paola Núñez as Evelyn Marcus, Ahad Raza Mir as Arjun Batra, Turlough Convery and Connor Gosatti as Simon.

The story of the series alternate between two timelines, following Jade and Billie Wesker during their days in New Raccoon City where they discover their father and Umbrella Corporation’s dark secrets, and a decade in the future in 2036, where Jade tries to survive the end of the world.

Resident Evil Ending Explained

We finally get the answer to our question, why is Albert Wesker so different from the original one who died in a volcano in Resident Evil 5. Well, the one we are seeing is his clone, in fact, the original Wesker had created 3 clones of himself named Albert, Alby, and Bert. We have been following Albert for most of the series.

While we learn more about his eccentric and breadstick-loving clone brother Bert towards the end of the season. As for Alby, he was killed alongside the original Wesker when Umbrella tried to shut down the project. We don’t get to know why he made the clones, but they were part of a research and development team to help the original Wesker.

When they were captured by Umbrella, Albert (the clone) struck a deal with Evelyn Marcus to work for the company in exchange for having his own life. However, Bert was locked in the lab and worked from there. In the end, when Billie, Jade, Bert and Albert were trying to escape the Umbrella lab, Albert sacrifices himself to stall time and let the girls getaway.

Thus now out of all the clones, only Bert is alive and on his way to Ada Wong, as instructed by his brother on the paper. Unfortunately, the equation between Jade and Billie has changed since Billie bit Simon, who was later shot by Evelyn. Jade believes that’s the night Billie changed forever and is responsible for all the deaths.

In the future, we see that Billie is actually alive and is the one who controls the Umbrella Corporations. In the first few episodes, it was portrayed as if Billie was dead, as Jade said that her sister is no more, many times. But when Jade gets out of the French dungeon, she is met with Billie, who first arrests her but later lets her go to the university.

Howbeit Billie had actually implanted a chip in the zero leader’s cut-off head, even though she got the chip out of Jade’s hand. By tracking that chip they find out the location of the University, which is a big ship and ask for Jade to be handed over. One thing after another, Jade is handed over at the base on a nearby island and breaks the Zeroes attracting chemicals there.

The base gets destroyed by them, Jade escapes and jumps on the sailing ship but little did she know that her daughter Bea had taken the bag under the bed and left the ship to go to another island, as Jade had told her to. Jade didn’t think she would have survived and thus wanted her family to be safe somewhere else.

Arjun and Jade try to search for Bea and find her boat on a nearby island but get capsized by the alligator, they had released. Somehow Billie narrowly escapes the island being ravaged by the giant zombie alligator and tries to kill it from her helicopter. She sees that the alligator comes across Bea but doesn’t do anything to her.

Jade also reaches Bea, leaving injured Arjun lying on the rocks. Unfortunately, Billie also lands there with her men and shoots Jade, because she doesn’t need her anymore. As now she has found Bea who doesn’t get affected by the zeroes and might be revolutionary for Umbrella Corporation research.

Has Netflix Renewed Resident Evil Season 2?

Although there are no official announcements from Netflix, the chances of Season 2 happening are high. In an interview, creator Andrew Dabb said that the story for Season 2 of the series might be in the making. Also, the way season 1 ended on a cliffhanger and didn’t show everything that had happened till 2036, there has to be another season.

Even though Billie said that the remaining clone Bert died after Jade left, we would still like to see how the trio adjusted to each other and that would also mean the entry of a new character, Ada Wong. Her address was given to the girls to contact, so the next season might introduce her and show how the two sisters got estranged from each other.

Resident Evil is streaming on Netflix.
