Black Bird Episode 1-2 Review Contains Spoilers

In Black Bird Episode 1, we meet Jimmy Keene, a young drug dealer. The cops raid and find him possessing drugs, cash and illegal weapons. Jimmy gets a 10-year prison sentence with no parole. However, officer Lauren McCauley makes him a striking offer. McCauley wants Larry to enter a maximum security facility for the criminally insane to get a suspected serial killer Larry Hall to confess his crimes.

Larry Hall is accused of killing a lot of girls. However, Larry acts weird in front of the cops and says that he gets dreams of killing girls. The cops find it tough to get Hall to confess the crimes as he keeps calling them bad dreams. If Jimmy Keene agrees to go to the security facility and manages to take out a confession from Larry, he will be freed of all his charges.

Jimmy is hesitant to take up the mission but would do anything to escape prison life ASAP. So he agrees to officer McCauley’s offer. Keene studies about Larry Hall and is ready to transfer to the maximum facility. However, serial killers are scary, and we sense the stress Keene is going through as he takes up a challenging mission.

The first two episodes are an intriguing build-up, leaving us curious to know what’s next. We are given an idea of who James Keene is and why the cops specifically chose him to carry out such a crucial mission.

Taron Egerton is an exceptional actor who instantly gets us interested in James Keene’s life. He’s a drug dealer. So how would he successfully carry out such a big mission by being with a serial killer? Oh, we can’t wait to see that unfold.

Paul Walter Hauser as Larry Hall acts all innocent and unknown but manages to give off creepy vibes. There’s an interrogation scene where Paul is so good. It makes you wonder if Larry is saying the truth or if that’s just his cover-up to take no responsibility for all the murders?

Actor Sepideh Moafi and Greg Kinnear add more meaning to the crime drama with their strong characters. Late actor Ray Liotta plays Jimmy Keene’s father, an ex-cop. He adds a humane element to the crime story.
