– MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 24 Recap Contains Mild Spoilers –

An elimination surprise graces MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 24. The cooks are provided with a 90-minute timer and their free will to nail a dish. The 90 minutes will stretch over two rounds. As soon as the timer starts the cooks can go ahead and prepare their best dish with as much time as they want within the allotted 90-minutes. They are to move to tasting after finishing the dish and, if it is one of the top fives of round one, the person will be safe from heading to round two.

As for round two, the minutes left on the timer after cooking their first dish is what the contestants will be left with for their second dish. The four dishes which will fail to impress the judges in the first round will be the ones heading to the second round and, one of the cooks will be going home by the end of the competition.

In MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 24, we see Tommy finally joining the game and he will be cooking alongside Daniel, Montana, Steph, Keyma, Melanie, Matt, Harry and Jenn as he has not been a part of the previous rounds of cooking. This is because he wasn’t keeping well, health-wise. Most of the cooks want to get their first dishes done in under 40 minutes, a quick dish they specialize in. This strategy is also because in case they are not successful in the first round, they will have enough time left to save themselves from getting eliminated.

In the first round, Jenn is the first one to be done with her dish- Mapa Tofu. As tasty as the dish is, Jenn’s dish lacks the lightness in rich and has girt in her coriander. We see Dan’s tasting session next where he presents Ocean Spare Ribs to the judges, which turns out to be undercooked. Melanie comes forward next with her glutton free version of Wonton Soup which receives good reviews. Tommy’s done next with his modern touch of Cha Ca La Vong which does not quite land right.

Steph’s dish is a Melon, Sago and Coconut which is one tasty dish the judges absolutely love. Harry presents a Cauliflower/Apple Combo which has too many flavours for one dish. Keyma is the last one to finish with 30 minutes remaining on her clock. She brings a Caribbean Prawn Curry with Pineapple Salsa and Fried Flatbread and, it is bang-on!

Coming out safe in the first round are Keyma, Melanie, Steph, Matt and Montana. Tommy, Jenn, Daniel and Harry move to the second round with Jenn having almost 60 minutes left which happens to be the most time on the clock. With whatever time they have left on their hands, the cooks emerge with their dishes.

Harry’s second dish is a Curried Carrots which impresses the judges right away. Tommy brings in a Bun cha Hanoi which puts judges into questioning certain elements of the dish. Jenn’s second dish is yet another Mapo Tofu which she recooked taking in the feedback from the judges in the first round. However, the dish tastes different from Jenn’s morning presentation with the rice still not done right. Daniel’s dish is also a recooked version of his first dish- Ocean Spare Ribs. Dan’s redemption dish works like a charm.

Daniel and Harry’s dishes are downright marked safe. By the end, we see Jenn heading home and Tommy continuing his journey in the MasterChef kitchen.

MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 24: A Special MasterClass

For the remaining ones in the competition along with Jenn, the episode ends with a MasterClass by Andy and Jock to lighten the tone of the episode. Making the most of the MasterChef garden, Andy cooks a Tempura Zucchini Flowers and Jock cooks his Eggplant Agrodolce. After this session, the cooks head to another MasterClass with Melissa and Chan & Ryan (from Country Cob Bakery). Chan & Ryan share their stories and cook a Slow Cooked Barbeque Beef with Quail Egg Pie.

The episode ends with a 30-minute dessert challenge between Michael and Keyma, in which they are helped by Andy and Jock, respectively. Melissa picks Tommy and Montana to taste the dishes by the two in-house teams. Michael and Andy’s dish is a passionfruit souffle. Keyma and Jock’s dish is a Lime Churros with Dulce de Leche Sauce. The fun little sweet foray’s winner turns out to be Keyma.

MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 24: Final Thoughts

MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 24 started on a gloomy note but ended with fun. It was sad to see Jenn’s redemption dish not working out because it truly is heartbreaking as it is her favourite dish. But, eliminations are just a part of the competition and Jenn will always remain a cook of the heart. The ending of the episode with the MasterClasses and the fun games were sweet and kinda and helped ease the mid-week elimination surprise.
