Eternally Confused and Eager for Love, an Indian English comedy series directed by Rahul Nair, is now out. The Netflix India show stars Vihaan Samat, Rahul Bose, Suchitra Pillai, Dalai, Jim Sarbh and Ankur Rathee. The series is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment and Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s Tiger Baby. There are 8 episodes of 23 minutes approx.

The synopsis reads, “Often (mis)guided by a cheeky imaginary wizard, an awkward and lonely 20-something struggles to get out of his own way in his quest for a girlfriend.”

Ray (Vihaan Samat), a 25-year-old socially anxious and awkward guy, wants to seek Love in life. However, his insecurities and self-doubting nature always ruin his chance to sustain even a normal date. Ray’s decisions are highly influenced by an imaginary Wiz, voiced by Jim Sarbh. The decisions taken by Ray and Wiz together are full of face-palm moments. In the 8 episodes, we see the sad life of Ray and how he’s adding more mess to it without logical thinking.

The title ‘Eternally Confused and Eager for Love’ is the best way to describe Ray’s personality in Rahul Nair’s story. Ray eagerly wants love in the show, just like Chandler Bing from Friends. But he is too scared to take risks or put himself out there, or he doesn’t know how to talk to women. Through the show, Nair attempts to show the dilemma of today’s youth. To some extent, the director has managed to capture the insecurities, confusions, fears and pressure the generation has to deal with.

Even though Ray is a confused and awkward guy, not even once there’s an attempt made to show that he’s naive. Ray always has the choice to make a better decision. But he’s too stubborn to think beyond himself. Even Wiz and his best friend Riya call him out for not thinking of another person. Ray says anything that comes to mind without realising how hurtful his words or actions can be.

Netflix Show Eternally Confused and Eager for Love also has a woke tone to the narrative. There’s a conversation about what men do to make sure women feel safe around them. Even an educated guy like Ray is unaware, probably because of his ignorant nature. What makes the show likeable is that it doesn’t get complicated even if it touches various topics. The linear and simple storytelling truly makes the show enjoyable to watch.

Actor Vihaan Samat is amazing as Ray. He’s in focus all the time and aptly displays the nervousness of a single person who’s desperately seeking love but making all the wrong decisions. Ray often drowns in self-pity, but Vihaan balances the act of not making us sympathise when his behaviour is wrong towards others. As Ray’s parents, Rahul Bose and Suchitra Pillai, are super cool and supportive. Actor Dalai as Ray’s friend Riya is quite likeable and seems like the only sane person in the show. Jim Sarbh adds a great punch and humour with his voice as Ray’s Wiz.

Eternally Confused and Eager for Love Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, Eternally Confused and Eager for Love is a short, quirky and amusing series that one can binge watch in one go. It’s the story of many single people who have no clue what they want. The concept isn’t new. Yet it feels refreshing, modern, relatable and easy to watch.
