After bringing us the popular animated horror Series Castlevania, Netflix and Adi Shankar have joined hands again to produce another gem titled The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!). Along with Adi Shankar, the show is directed by Stewart Yost, Kenlon Clark, Luis Junquera, Enol Junquera and written by Shawn Deloache and Samuel Laskey. This Bootleg Universe Production is edited by Noah Berlow, Danny Reams and Nik Voytas, with music by Oscillian and, photography by Jacob Ritley and Edd Lukas.

The series is a hybrid of different forms of animation and is laid out in a video game format mixed with third-person narration and news reporting, making it a unique piece to enjoy. The cast includes Diamond Dallas Page, Sharni Vinson, Derek Mears, Christopher Judge, Jane Seymour, RJ Mitte, Denise Richards, Hal Ozsan and Andy Milonakis. The series consists of seven episodes with a runtime that ranges from somewhere approximately 20 minutes to 40 minutes.

The Guardians of Justice: A War’s Coming, Will They Save Us?

Netflix’s latest superhero series seems like a crossover between all the big names in this genre that we know of. It feels like DC and surely reminds one of the Justice League and Watchmen with its gory details and dark tone. But, it also embodies Marvel comics at times with its optimism and the trope of saving the world. Somewhere in the middle, the characters remind you of Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys and Invincible as it traps you in its world.

The series opens with a Superman-like superhero, Marvelous Man and his victory of protecting the earth and keeping it at peace for 40 days. Marking his 40th anniversary of protecting planet Earth, people all across the globe tune in to their television to listen to Marvelous Man’s annual speech on Marvelous Man Day. However, it does exactly goes as one would expect it to. The audiences both in reel and real witness Marvelous Man committing suicide, weary with the burden of the world. But, was it really? Or, was it murder?

Hunting down these questions and uncovering devasting secrets from the past and the tragic consequences of it on the present and the future is Knight Hawk, Marvelous Man’s bitter, violent but, trusted lieutenant. With an idealistic do-gooder called The Speed alongside him, we see the duo look for answers and in the process discover things they did not even think existed. Set against the background of a world tempted to create chaos with war, weapons and wealth, this dark satire of the superhero genre has us entertained and on the edge of our seats wanting to know what happens next.

The Guardians of Justice: Final Verdict

Adi Shankar’s latest series mixes live-action with traditional animation. There is also claymation, cut out paper animation, and 8-bit video game footage showcased in the series which truly serves as a love letter to the 1990s American pop culture.

Overall, The Guardians of Justice uses everything in the genre to create a wholesome experience. If you are someone who enjoys animated works, this is one of those that cannot miss. It has the zest of a superhero movie but also the thrill and excitement of a suspenseful drama. There is world politics, humanity, evilness and much more this series has to offer. But, most importantly it has a narrative and pace that quickly sucks you in and keeps you charmed till the end.
