Pam and Tommy Episode 5 Review: Trouble in Paradise and the Darkness of Internet

Pam and Tommy Episode 5 puts our pair in a crisis mode which seems endless as well as hopeless. Directed by the brilliant Craig Gillespie, who has given us I, Tonya and Cruella, the show is written by Robert D. Siegel based on the article Pam and Tommy: The Untold Story of the World’s Most Infamous Sex Tape by Amanda Chicago Lewis (first published in Rolling Stone in 2014). It is developed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen and, produced jointly by Point Grey Pictures and Annapurna Television.

The series closely tracks the life and marriage between the Baywatch sensation Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and, threads carefully to tell the story of the release of the duo’s unauthorized sex tape and how it affected them. Actress Lily James stars in the titular character of Pam aka Pamela Anderson and, Marvel’s Sebastian Stan plays the role of Tommy Lee. The other cast members include Seth Rogen as Rand Gauthier, Maxwell Caulfield, Nick Offerman as Uncle Miltie and, Taylor Schilling as Erica Gauthier. The first five episodes are out, with the fifth Episode having the shortest runtime of 30 minutes.

Pam and Tommy Episode 5: “Uncle Jim and Aunt Susie In Duluth”

The fifth episode of Pam and Tommy is directed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton and written by Brooke Baker & D.V. DeVincentis. After the sweet and sour ending of the previous episode, we see our central characters go through a more severe relationship crisis. The pair react to the distribution of the sex tape differently, while paparazzi and media find their scoop in the new scandalous thing on the web.

Pam and Tommy Episode 5 privies us the crumbling foundation of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s relationship. We have Pam on the stepping stones to make her career bigger than just the babe from Baywatch. However, Pam’s progress seems to equate to Tommy’s career stagnation. As the duo flip through the pages and, stand on different ends of their relationship, we can almost see the fairytale world from the first three episodes dissolving into the puddle of real-life relationship struggles.

The episode offers Third Eye Blind, Sandra Bullock, the New York Unabomber, Julia Roberts’ divorce references dropped during its course. However, the main focus is taken by the entry of Bob Guccione, the head of Penthouse magazine. We see the unsuccessful lawsuit rage between Anderson-Lee and, Guccione. We also see reporter Alicia Krentz play a significant part in this episode in trying to bring out the real news behind the Pam and Tommy sex tape story.

Pam and Tommy Episode 5: Final Thoughts

With Pamela’s publicist giving her two cents on the situation, the 10 million dollar lawsuit making headlines and, various other events, the episode overall focuses on the fading chemistry between Tommy and Pamela as the sex tape scandal gets bigger than ever.
