So, the demon who was in control of the Mugen Train was defeated in the last episode. What is Demon Slayer Mugen Train Anime Episode 6 going to do to increase the show’s stakes and runtime? Well, introduce a new villain with no rhyme or reason, of course! Let’s see how the episode did in this review!

Demon Slayer Mugen Train Anime Episode 6 Overview

One of the most popular anime of our time, Demon Slayer, is back on our screens with the anime version of its Mugen Train Arc. Ufotable will slightly alter this adaptation from the movie released in 2020 to a huge critical and commercial reception, including new footage and an entirely new first episode. The Mugen Train Anime arc will run for 7 episodes, after which the show will resume its normal storyline with the Entertainment District Arc.

Ufotable is the studio behind Demon Slayer’s anime adaptation and will be directed by Haruo Sotozaki. It is to be noted that the first episode was Anime original, which means that the story isn’t originally what was written in the manga. Demon Slayer Mugen Train Arc Episode 6- The Review

As usual, the good stuff first. Rengoku is the absolute best character in all of Demon Slayer, and I hope nothing spectacularly bad happens to him at the end of this arc. He is the kind of character you want to be your friend in real life and out of the fictional anime universe, and despite being written in a somewhat formulaic manner, he stands out heads and toes above the entire cast of the show. That much has never been as obvious as in Kimetsu No Yaiba Mugen Train Arc Episode 6.

The animation and soundtrack are at their peak here as well, with the fight animation and choreography looking gorgeous and the music sounding as good as any music in the world has ever sounded. Akaza’s theme was a particular highlight in the movie, and I’m glad to see that it retained its awesomeness in the anime series. Now, if only Sony would allow the theme on a platform where we could all listen to it, wouldn’t that be great?

That’s the good stuff gone, time for the mediocre and bad stuff. I despised the ending monologue of the Train demon. If he isn’t important enough for people to remember his name, what makes anyone think that people would be interested in his thoughts about how he got his ass kicked by five teenagers? Villain monologues are already tiresome in Demon Slayer, and one that comes after the enemy has been defeated is particularly worthless.

Demon Slayer Mugen Train Episode 6 introduced an entirely new villain for the battered and tired heroes to fight, who is somehow important enough to warrant a whole episode name by himself. Akaza is a terrible character, and I’ll take my time to explain why. He comes out of nowhere just as an unclimbable wall for our heroes and carries no other meaning to the story. He has no character other than he is evil and strong. He is more of a plot device than a character.

He also has an awful personality which comprises almost entirely of him wanting to eradicate the world of weak people. A unique take, wouldn’t you say? We are also never given an in-story explanation of him being there, which makes him even more of a plot device, a Daemon ex Machina, if I do say so myself. To cap it all off, the actual fight scene between Rengoku and Akaza is also terrible, as it almost entirely consists of Rengoku not being able to do anything to him and him just recovering like crazy. Was that supposed to be entertaining?

I hope I have been able to convince some of you on why my opinion on Akaza is at least valid, if not correct. At least there was no Zenitsu in Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train Episode 6, which is definitely a silver lining. Another 90-second recap, though. I’ve already been thorough on why I hate those, and you can read the previous review to find out why. Next week marks the end of this awful adventure, though. I can’t wait for everyone to find out that I actually like the show, just not this lazy excuse for content that is the movie again but in 6 episodes.

Verdict

Demon Slayer Mugen Train Anime Episode 6 certainly has its moments, but it didn’t make much sense in the plot and character department. Thankfully, this terrible idea ends next week.
