Princess Switch 3 is a drama-comedy movie directed by Mike Rohl and stars Vanessa Hudgens, Nick Sagar, Remy Hii, Amanda Donohoe and Sam Palladio, alongside other cast members. The movie is 106 minutes long.

Man, a Christmas without a The Princess Switch movie now feels absolutely unthinkable. Ok, that’s a bit much, but you know what I mean. I am just glad that they don’t have another doppelganger, making the movies even more confusing and honestly, goofy. Well, the thing is, these movies are stupid and goofy, we know this. They are mushy movies that we are expected to watch for a funny and good time, without thinking too deeply about what exactly we are watching.

That’s ok, honestly. I sometimes like watching movies that don’t make me think too deeply. The Princess Switch 3 is as goofy and unrealistic as its predecessors, but at least it looks great, so we have something to look forward to.

The Princess Switch 3 starts with a rundown of what to expect and who all are going to play a huge role in the upcoming festivities. This is a straightforward movie, nothing too shocking. Honestly, it’s nothing original either. I had to keep reminding myself that this is a Christmas movie to not totally lose my mind.

I feel like Venessa Hudgens is the only person who can pull off someone like Fiona. Her character constantly purrs and meows at everyone around her. Her character is so over-the-top that it’s honestly difficult to sit through. But, at the same time, she’s so over-the-top that it’s amusing to watch.

At the same time, everyone in The Princess Switch 3 is so stiff that nothing seems natural. Accepted that watching three Venessa Hudgens on-screen can’t be considered natural either way, but the body language and acting are stiff and cardboard-like and it will constantly remind you that “this is a Christmas movie, don’t take it seriously!!”

As we barrel towards the crime-solving part of the movie, which, shockingly, this is now, the movie doesn’t get any more interesting or thrilling. Its only constant vibe is goofy, something that it pulls off too well, but other than that it’s awkward and very weird. The Princess Switch 3, all of a sudden, becomes a mish-mash between Mission Impossible and Entrapment and it just gets worse from there. The movie shines when it knows where it is supposed to be – the goofy one-time Christmas watch to make us forget our life’s sadness. The pendulum swing between these two moods can (and will) give anyone whiplash.

Now, yes, I’d watch the shit out of The Princess Switch 3 on a lonely December night. But, good god, Venessa Hudgens’s Fiona is difficult to digest and the third Switch movie is mostly based on her – her background, her thoughts, relationships and motivations. I couldn’t imagine a worse fate for audiences than watching Hudgens pout and purr and speak like she has a tomato lodged in her throat.

Three-character Venessa Hudgens is fine in all her roles, but Fiona’s character is extremely over-acted. And, yes, I acknowledge that that’s who she is, but I am a human being, after all. Remy Hii as Peter Maxwell is the newest character in The Princess Switch 3 and he’s… well, he’s pretty awkward.

However, The Princess Switch 3 looks great and the sets and costumes are sparkly, bright and festive. It has a distinct holiday feel to it that is impossible to ignore and the movie works for it.

The Princess Switch 3 majorly focuses on Fiona this time around and goes the Mission Impossible route. It takes itself too seriously sometimes, and sometimes not so much. The whiplash can be a bit much. But all said and done, can this be enjoyed as a stupid and goofy Christmas movie? Definitely.
