Takt Op Destiny is a collaboration project by two of the biggest studios currently operating in the anime industry, Madhouse and MAPPA. Studio Madhouse is known for creating several classics such as HunterxHunter, Death Note, and the recent Sonny Boy. Meanwhile, Studio MAPPA holds the entire industry’s attention in the palm of its hands with behemoths such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan under its development wing.

Takt Op Destiny is a multi-media project between Bandai Namco Arts and DeNA, which comprises a mobile game and this anime series we are talking about. Yuuki Itou directs the series, and Kiyoko Yoshimura serves as the primary writer of the show’s script. You can go back and read our review of the second episode of the series right here!

Simplicity can be a blessing and a curse. When done wrong, it leads to the media coming odd as lazy overreliant on tropes. When done correctly, there is a beautiful elegance to even the simplest of stories. Takt Op Destiny Episode 3 has the second kind of simplicity in its core, for it is a tale of two people trying to bring back a loved one that they lost. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood might tell you against doing that, but what would two kids know? So what if one of them wears a huge armour?

Takt Op Destiny Episode 3 answers almost every question that would come to anyone’s mind while watching episodes one and two and then poses new questions. It is refreshing to see an anime actually answer some questions for once (I loved Sonny Boy, but come on Madhouse). With this move, Takt Op Destiny has ensured that people will trust it enough to answer future questions satisfactorily.

The world of Takt Op Destiny is a very interesting one, and Episode 3 also described to us music dunces where its name comes from. Takt is the name of the main character, of course. Op stands for Opus, which is used to denote a specific musical number by an artist. Destiny comes from Beethoven’s Symphony Number 5, the famous one you’ve heard in all those scary movies. It is also referred to as Fate or Destiny.

Takt Op Destiny is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where music causes creatures to attack you, and you combat them with sound. The Quiet Place, anyone? There are several notable differences between the two properties, but some similarities are interesting to look at. The universe is explained, the destination is known, and there is now a whole new world to explore in Takt Op Destiny. The show’s emotional core remains as strong as ever, and we will always mourn the loss of Cossette.

Takt Op Destiny Episode 3 Review- The Characters

Takt Op Destiny Episode 3 Review: No Mercy, Kill Them All! 13

The character design of Takt Op Destiny is very pretty. One could attribute it to the characters being mobile game originals first. Still, all the main characters are striking and fashionable despite being in a world on the brink of destruction. Looking at Takt once would give you an idea of what he’s all about, as the character design is very intuitive. Cossette (Destiny) is a highlight of the show whenever she’s on-screen, and I want Anna as my older sister too.

The new characters in this episode were Lenny and Titan, another composer and musicart. They served as the information providers of the Takt Op Destiny Episode 3 and were charming whenever they were featured on the episode. Lenny was written very ambiguously, and I’m not sure I trust him quite yet. I hope they stick around as they’re tons of fun.

Takt Op Destiny Episode 3 Review- Art and Music

There are two shows about different types of arts airing this season, Blue Period and Takt Op Destiny. While the animation and art is often the worst part of Blue Period, a show about art, the same isn’t the case for Takt Op Destiny. Takt Op Destiny Episode 3 proves again that the music remains one of the best parts of the show, whether it be the openings or OSTs.

The animation in the show is also brilliant, featuring some colour contrasts in the battle scenes that make them look as well as battle scenes have ever looked in an anime. The usage of the colour red is also striking, and Takt Op Destiny Episode 3 is a gift to the senses. I want to see more of the world they’ve constructed, and I might download the mobile game to do that. That’s how good the show is.

Verdict

Takt Op Destiny Episode 3 provides a lot of exposure to the fascinating world the showrunners have created. The show remains one of the prettiest anime on our screens right now, and it sounds like that too.
