Netflix’s On My Block Season 4 Review: Goodbye Besties

On My Block Season 4 starring Sierra Capri, Diego Tinoco, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Jessica Marie Garcia, and Julio Macias, Peggy Blow. Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft are the creators of Netflix teen comedy-drama. The final season consists of 10 episodes, of 30 minutes approximately.

The synopsis reads – Season 4 finds our friends two years later, having gone their separate ways. When a secret is unburied, they quickly learn you can’t run from the past and they will need to stick together to survive.

Netflix’s On My Block Season 4 Review Does Not Contain Any Spoilers

We saw a two-year time jump in the previous season, where our favourite pals grew apart, trying to alter their lives. Cesar (Diego Tinoco) has gone down the wrong path, and his brother Spooky aka Oscar (Julio Macias), is a family man. Monse (Sierra Capri) lives with her late mother’s partner and children. Ruby (Jason Genao) and Jasmine (Jessica Marie Garcia) are head over heels in love, while Jamal (Brett Gray) is the third wheel, trying to figure out his own life.

These two years have shaped our favourite Freeridge teenagers’ lives and personalities in ways we’ve never seen before. As a result, things don’t go easy when they get together again. I don’t want to give anything away in my On My Block Final season review. So, without mentioning names, I’d want to inform you that the last season is jam-packed with drama, humour, grief, heartbreaks, deaths, and farewells.

In the first episode, we think how sorted their lives have become, even if someone has taken the wrong path. However, as the episodes progress, Monse, Cesar, Ruby, Jasmine, and Jamal will still be dealing with a lot of confusion. Friendships are put to the test, and someone from their past returns to torment them.

We are mostly shown as an audience that everything has a happy ending. Netflix On My Block, on the other hand, is known for startling us with its twists. In reality, we don’t always get what we want as teenagers.  It’s the time of life to really experience and feel everything and make the best memories possible. In the end, the show’s besties realise the importance of all their high school days. Hence, it’s tough to say goodbye after the bittersweet climax. The ending is heartwarming and not usual like other teenage comedy shows.

Coming to performances, the star of the final season is Brett Gray, who plays Jamal. His character arc always leaves us wondering what he wants and where the writers want to take him. Jamal’s transition is amazing, and Brett has done a good job. Jason Genao, aka Ruby, is my other favourite. The rest of the cast – Sierra Capri, Diego Tinoco, Jessica Marie Garcia, and Julio Macias also played their part well.

On My Block Season 4 Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, the final is worth watching. As these Freeridge teenagers have also become our friends, saying goodbye isn’t easy. They say all good things come to an end, but not beautiful friendships.

On My Block Final Season is now streaming on Netflix.
