Scenes From A Marriage, Midnight Mass and Other Unmissable September Releases

September offered us a varied range of new releases, be it series like Scenes from a Marriage and The Lost Symbol, or films like SonyLIVs Kaanekkaane, the month has truly been infected with commendable content. Surely, along with these hits, there were plenty of misses but, those can be shoved aside for some other day.

Today, let us take a look at all the series and movies that embraced our screens this September that cannot afford to miss. A special touch to this feature article is all the shows and films listed are from my personal favourite list and we can find a detailed review attached on the Leisurebyte website.

Amazon Prime’s Mumbai Diaries 26/11

Released on September 9, 2021, Mumbai Diaries 26/11 gives a different perspective to the 2008 Mumbai attacks. It is part-fiction, part-real and has an ensemble cast including Konkona Sen Sharma, Mohit Raina, Prakash Belawadi and various others. A hard-hit home, Mumbai Diaries 26/11 aims to tell you the story of ordinary human beings who did extraordinary things in times of need backed with bravery and courage.

Disney+ Hotstar’s Scenes from a Marriage

A retake on the iconic 1973 Swedish miniseries by Ingmar Bergman of the same name, Hagai Levi takes us on a beautiful and tragic journey of marriage through HBO’s Scenes from a Marriage. Only 2 out of 5 episodes have aired and it is already winning hearts and touching souls. Jessica Chastain and Oscar Issac are in the led roles and their chemistry is unfathomable.

New episodes of Scenes from a Marriage air every Monday at 7:30 AM on Disney+ Hotstar. You can get a recap of what has happened in the series so far, here.

Netflix’s He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe

Action-packed, endearing and gives you a trip right to your childhood when the original series aired! Released on September 16, 2021, He-Man and the Masters of The Universe is a binge-worthy anime-like show with cyber-punk elements, friendships and bravery holding it together at heart.

SonyLIV’s Kaanekkaane

A slow-burning thriller about tragic relationships and the mess of it all, Kaanekkaane is definitely one of the best Malayalam films, you’ll see in a long time. The film relies on good cinematography, excellent background score and diligent actors to deliver the best to us.

Voot’s The Lost Symbol

Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol, streaming now on Voot Select shows us the early like of the iconic character Robert Langdon. The first few episodes of the series are out and it feels like it is going to keep us at the edge of our seats all the time.

Netflix’s The Starling

If you are looking for something light which also essentially deep, this comedy-drama is just the right pick for you! Released on September 24, 2021, The Starling feautring Melissa McCarthy in the leading role is a tale of love and loss. It is fateful and brave and examines a survivor’s pain.

You catch my full review on the film, here.

Netflix’s Midnight Mass

Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass is the only 5 staring rating in my list and all you need to do is watch the 7-episode series to understand why. The elements of The Haunting of Hill House synced in with Ari Aster’s Midsommar is what makes Midnight Mass so special and unique. It is an important series for the people delving on the subjects of religion and science, good and bad, alike.

These are one of the best releases of September. Let us know in the comments below, what shows and films did you like best this month!
