The acclaimed director Vishal Bhardwaj who has given us gems like Haider and Maqbool presents us with a glimpse of his upcoming project in the official Khufiya Teaser. The teaser was released as a part of Netflix Tumdum, the global fan event and is arriving on the OTT soon. The exclusive clip gives us an eerie vibe which is something that is inevitable in the works of Vishal Bhardwaj.

Khufiya Teaser: What can we tell so far?
Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming spy-thriller is based on Amar Bhushan’s ‘Escape to Nowhere.’ The film is inspired by true events as mentioned at the very start of the teaser.
The teaser opens at the office of India’s External Intelligence Service, where we see the character of Ali Fazal who is a government official casually sit in his cabin while rain pours outside and Bond-themed background music keeps playing. The scene is shot from two angles- one is the camera placed in the room and, one in the audience breaking the fourth wall and seeing Ali Fazal’s movements. The two perspectives are differentiated with monochrome Vs. colour.

We find Ali’s character unlocking a safe and photocopying a top-secret file which is “For Eyes Only”, making it apparent that whatever this man is up to is illegal. However, what is more, fascinating is getting a sneak peek into what’s written on that file.
The document shows increased militant activity at the “Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir” border and Ali Fazal’s character photocopying the document can possibly be hinting towards how he is involved and is leaking information outside the bureau. Could this be another thriller based on terrorism?

The clip ends with Tabu’s voice in the backdrop saying, “Woh sirf mera nahi, pure desh ka gaddar hain” and the title of the film flashes onto the screen.
This very scene takes us to Netflix’s description of the teaser which reads, “Do you think your secrets are safe?”
