Dhoop Ki Deewar Episode 9 and 10 Recap: The Best So Far

Dhoop Ki Deewar Episode 9 and 10 were released on Zee5 as per schedule. The show has now consistently been releasing 2 episodes per week. It is written by Umera Khan and directed by Haseeb Hassan. Dhoop Ki Deewar is a Pakistani web series. It initially faced a lot of backlash because of the fact that the show was released on an Indian OTT platform. However, it has been rising in popularity globally. Until now, ten episodes have been released, each having a run time of around 40 to 45 minutes. The show has been running for about a month now.

– This Dhoop Ki Deewar Episode 9 and 10 Recap contains spoilers –

Last week’s episodes ended with Vishal’s Dadi receiving a disturbing phone call from her tenants. They belong to a political party and threaten Vishal’s safety if Dadi gets the army unit involved. Dhoop Ki Deewar Episode 9 and 10 begin with Dadi frantically trying to reach Vishal. He is in school and ignores her calls to pay attention in class. However, he does text her to let her know the same. At that moment, Sara calls him up. Wanting to talk to her about Nadir, he makes a trivial excuse to get out of class and talk to her.

Vishal gets caught bunking class, and the teacher calls up his Dadi to inform her about this. Vishal tries to convince them that he was trying to respond to his Dadi’s calls, but both of them are unconvinced. Once back home, he begs Dadi not to tell his mother, but Sunanda has already overheard the conversation. She is not angry about Vishal and Sara being in contact, and other than a few jibes here and there, she doesn’t say much.

Vishal and his mother call up Sara and Amna, hoping to finally help with Nadir’s learning disability. However, Sara’s Dada grows agitated and asks Vishal never to call again. The audio is on speakerphone, and Vishal’s Dadi overhears this. She is hurt that they are talking to the enemy’s family. She is unable to bear the insults Sara’s dada throws at Vishal and says hurtful things about Sara’s character and upbringing. The call ends with both sides fuming, while Sara and Vishal try their best to calm things down.

Vishal explains the same thing he did to his mother in the previous episodes, and this time Dadi calms down and accepts that she was out of line. Vishal apologizes to Sara, and they decide not to stop talking to each other. Their calls have become more frequent and aren’t limited to just problems and vent sessions anymore.

Meanwhile, Pratibha, Vishal’s aunt, makes a reappearance as promised. This time, she has her niece, Neha, in tow. Neha may have a slight superiority complex. Dhoop Ki Deewar episode 9 and 10 hints at it, but as of now, it’s quite subtle. Pratibha keeps trying to push Vishal and Neha together, but Vishal is quite distracted because, well…Sara.

Amna, a victim of her circumstances, is asked for a loan by the same sister-in-law who had left their house in a fit of anger. Ayesha needs a hefty sum, and Sara’s Dadi asks Amna to give it, for Ayesha may lose her house. Amna reveals that Sher Ali had given quite a few loans to Ayesha already and that none of the money has been returned. However, now, the matter becomes a tad bit complicated, because they have lost their bread-earner, and all they have is the Provident Fund to support them. Sara advises against giving them the money, and her Dadi happens to overhear this conversation.

Once again, everyone in the house is upset with Sara, just because she spoke up. Her dada is still stuck up on the whole Vishal issue, her dadi is angry about her insensitive comments towards Ayesha, and her mother is angry, just because. She shares all of this with Vishal and their following conversation is quite possibly one of my favourites throughout the show. She talks about independence and womanhood in India and Pakistan, and best of all, calls out Vishal on his chauvinism. Her words, not mine! She addresses the only problems I had with the show, and now I wish I would have waited for the character development.

Sara gets into medical college, with straight As and this news is enough to ease the tension between the family members. They hug and let bygones be bygones but they can’t help shed a few tears, thinking back to what Sher Ali’s reaction would have been. Vishal leaves dinner halfway to congratulate Sara, and there is an odd discussion about sweets and who should send it to whom.

Meanwhile, Sunanda catches up with an old friend and learns that he has been recently divorced. Through their conversation, it becomes apparent that he was in love with her back in their college days. He expresses his condolences for Vijay’s death, and then springs a proposal on her, all in the same line. Brutal.

Amna and Sunanda finally connect over a call. During Dhoop Ki Deewar episode 9 and 10, we are treated to an honest heart-to-heart with Sunanda and Amna instead of Vishal and Sara. Lord knows that they needed it. They can obviously relate to each other’s pain on a much deeper level. The dialogue here is a little over the top, but the circumstances do call for the added theatrics.

Final Verdict: Dhoop Ki Deewar Episode 9 and 10

So much happens within these two episodes. But everything is in just the perfect balance. There’s the right amount of humour, hints at the obviously approaching romance (given the poster) between Vishal and Sara, Amna and Sunanda’s tete-a-tete, and Sara finally speaking up for the women. The episodes also create enough of an information vacuum to build anticipation for the coming episodes. It is still quite dramatic compared to the usual Pakistani soaps, but given that this was made for a primarily Indian audience, I understand the choice to change that. Perhaps, I might have to rethink my previous verdict about this show not being my favourite…

But, that, we will only know once the show ends.

Dhoop Ki Deewar Episode 9 and 10 are now streaming on Zee5.
