Masters of the Universe: Revelation premiered on 24th July 2021 on Netflix. The American animated superhero fantasy series is developed by Kevin Smith and produced by Powerhouse Animation Studios. Masters of the Universe: Revelation is a sequel to the 1983–1985 Filmation series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The series is set to be released in two parts.

The voice cast includes Chris Wood, Mark Hamill, Liam Cunningham, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lena Headey, Diedrich Bader, Griffin Newman, Stephen Root, Susan Eisenberg, and Justin Long alongside other cast members.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation brings back He-Man, Skeletor, and other characters to screen in a two-part animated mini-series on Netflix with the second part of the series set to release on a later date. According to director Kevin Smith, the series picks up from where it left earlier in the 1985 original series.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation follows prince Adam who harnesses the power of Grayskull when he needs to turn into He-Man, a secret identity known to few. He-Man alongside Teela, Orko, Cringer, and others protect the Grayskull castle as Eternia gets all its magic from there and if anything was to harm Grayskull, it would not only end Eternia but the entire Universe too. As the magic in the castle is the energy that created the universe. It’s a big thing to protect with the existence of humanity at stake. The 5-episode long series spins the story and builds on characters other than He-Man and gives them a place to have an individual identity away from the shadow of He-Man.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation opens by pushing us beyond where we imagined the He-Man legend could go — while also providing humorous nods to both the original series and the 1987 movie — it becomes an epic voyage about grief, tragedy, forgiveness, and sacrifice. The new team of warriors here is composed of both heroes and villains, as they are entrusted with bringing magic back to Eternia and saving the entire universe. But when you think everything is well and good and peace is returning back home, the series culminates on an unexpected twist that’ll leave you wondering- how is it even possible?

The series is riveting and engrossing and if you were a fan of the original show or if you were a fan of Mattel’s He-Man toy line then the show will definitely make you nostalgic. The show, now released in 2021, features a storyline that is not just goofy in value but is also sentimental and mature with characters that have various emotional and psychological layers to them. It addresses fears and failure while holding to its goofy side, making it one amazing watch.

The sequel retains the majority of the original costume and aesthetic. For example, the cars still have features like faces and all! However, the characters are no longer portrayed as uniform action figures, with one muscular shape for males and one prototype slim shape for females, as they were in the beginning. Teela, Andra, and Evil are three of the most powerful women in the world, wherein,  Teela has a new undercut hairdo as a metaphor for her new strength, and powerful demeanour, while Lyn, being a warrior, is suitably muscular.

Stream It or Skip It

STREAM IT! It takes a significant amount of work to not change an original into something that is completely distinguished from its roots, all the while retaining its essence while adding new values and details. It’s as complex as this sentence might feel! Masters of the Universe: Revelation is therefore a worth watching and engrossing series and hopefully after the release of the second part, there will be more of it! Lastly, the name of some characters will never cease to be funny to me like Moss-man, Mer-Man, etc!
