Pioneer DJ announce new flagship club mixer, the DJM-A9

Pioneer DJ recently announced their new Flagship Club Mixer – the DJM-A9!

With the same familiar layout as the (now old) industry-standard DJM-900NXS2, the new 4-channel unit boasts a ton of upgrades compared to its predecessor – offering better sound quality, expanded connectivity options, new FX, and much more!

To expand on that, some notable features include the ‘center lock’ on the Sound Color FX knobs (when switched on this prevents the knobs going past ‘12 o clock’ in the opposite direction), much improved microphone settings, a better display screen with more customization options, 2 x headphone outputs with dedicated adjustments (great for back-to-backs and DJ changeovers), and Bluetooth pairing.

The layout has also been tweaked for a better user experience, with the DJM-A9 providing more space around the EQ knobs; plus the channel faders and Magvel crossfader have been redesigned using better quality materials.

As for software, the DJM-A9 fully supports Pioneer’s rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro (separate license needed for Serato), and is also compatibility with their ‘Stagehand’ App – basically allowing venues to wirelessly connect an iPad via WiFi and monitor the activity on the mixer.

The DJM-A9 is available now priced at $2,700 dollars, US.

Key feature breakdown

Sound improvements: An ESS Technology 32-bit high-quality A/D converter is built in to the channel input section and D/A converters of the same type are featured in the master and booth output sections to produce crystal-clear, natural-sounding audio.

‘Evolved playability’: The DJM‑A9 inherits the familiar layout from the DJM range but includes updated controls and components, such as increased spacing around the EQ knobs, high-grade LEDs, and optimized frequency response from the isolators.

Sound Color FX with center lock: Turn on the brand-new Center Lock feature and, when using the Sound Color FX, each knob will stop turning when you reach the center position so you won’t go too far and switch to the opposite parameter.

Newly advanced Beat FX: The new color display and horizontal X‑Pad enables you to add effects to your sound even more intuitively. Even better, the channel selector is now a dedicated button, enabling you to quickly apply effects to your chosen channel.

Enhanced Mic section: The mic section was developed so you can enjoy more control and add extra creativity to your performances. With phantom power you can connect a condenser mic and, using the 3 new microphone effects plus a dedicated reverb, you can hype up the crowd with your vocals.

Expanded connectivity: Connect 2 different PC/Mac systems at the same time thanks to the dual USB Type‑B and USB Type‑C ports (2 of each) for seamless transitions. And, with a Bluetooth input you can wirelessly drop audio tracks into your sets from other devices such as smartphones.

Versatile monitoring: Plug in your headphones at the same time as another DJ and enjoy the freedom to monitor the channels you want to. Plus, with the 2‑band booth EQ, you can tweak the high and low frequencies so the sound in the booth matches what the audience hears on the dancefloor.

Support for the Stagehand app: The DJM‑A9 is compatible with Stagehand, so you can wirelessly connect an iPad to the mixer and monitor the level meters and the DJ’s use of the controls, making it easier to maximize the sound system’s settings and run a smoother show.
