Spotify have just rolled out a beta version of ‘DJ’ – an AI-powered personalisation tool that chooses what to play based on your listening history, whilst providing Commentary around the tracks and artists in a ‘’stunningly realistic’’ voice.
The consumer feature uses technology from OpenAI (the company behind ChatGPT chatbot), together with an AI voice from Sonantic which Spotify acquired last year.
In a press release, Spotify said:
‘’It will sort through the latest music and look back at some of your old favorites—maybe even resurfacing that song you haven’t listened to for years. It will then review what you might enjoy and deliver a stream of songs picked just for you.’’
If you don’t like the selection, users can simply tap the DJ button to make a change. The more you listen and tell the ‘’DJ’’ what you want to hear, the better its recommendations get.
The Beta version is now available for Spotify Premium users in the U.S. and Canada only. Follow these instructions to try it:
- Head to your Music Feed on Home in the Spotify mobile app on your iOS or Android device.
- Tap Play on the DJ card.
- The DJ will serve a lineup of music alongside short commentary on the songs and artists, picked just for you.
- Hit the DJ button at the bottom right of the screen to be taken to a different genre, artist, or mood.
