5 Epic Video Game Soundtracks on Spotify to Help You Focus

As someone who enjoys falling headfirst into video games, one of the most important aspects of the experience for me is the Soundtracks. Whether it’s an intense battle or just exploration of an open-world environment, the epic video game soundtracks that accompany it can make or break how focused and invested I am.

So naturally, I have a pension for sprinkling an epic video game soundtrack or two into my everyday life to try to get that same level of focus. These 5 soundtracks from video games are a few of my favorite options when I need a little extra epic-ness in my day.

You can also take a look at our list of the best movie soundtracks on Spotify for more suggestions.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Soundtrack

Ever since Skyrim came to the Nintendo Switch, I have been listening to the music over and over again. Jeremy Soule’s Skyrim soundtrack is nothing short of a masterpiece, elevating the game to new heights with epic gusto. And perhaps the biggest improvement from previous Elder Scrolls games, like Oblivion, is the sheer variety of tracks to listen to. Which only strengthens my argument for a Skyrim Netflix series.

The music itself is vibrant and warm with a blanket of epic-ness that flows from track to track. Though the main theme, “Dragonborn”, can be intimidating for some, many of the exploration tracks like “Ancient Stones” are perfect for studying.

Personally, I like to use the main theme if I want to feel like I’m going into battle. It’s especially effective if I need to give something 100% of my attention.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Soundtrack

As another game like Skyrim, Breath of the Wild has some incredible music made for that open-world feeling. What makes it different from some of the other soundtracks on this list is that there aren’t really any standout tracks from the soundtrack. Everything seemingly flows together and fits nicely in the background of your mind.

The original score from the game was composed by Manaka Kataoka, Yasuaki Iwata, and Hajime Wakai — who had previously worked on other titles. But if you want the best Breath of the Wild playlist to listen to, we’ve found one that aggregates music from the game as well as music inspired by it.

If you’re trying to get started with studying or a project, I’d suggest “Field (Day)” which is just the main exploration theme when you’re crossing a field during the day within the game. It has an ethereal openness to it that is great for deep thought.

Assassin’s Creed II Soundtrack

Listen on Spotify

There have been more than a few Assassin’s Creed games in my day, but none of the soundtracks have hit me as hard as Assassin’s Creed II. Jesper Kyd does an amazing job of combining a cacophony of instrumentals with haunting vocals.

One of the main reasons I enjoy listening to this soundtrack when I’m trying to get stuff done is how easily it pulls me out of real life. It has an energy to it that can keep you going, and ethereal vocals to provide that otherworldly feeling that pull you right out of yourself.

All-in-all, I don’t have a specific track to suggest because it’s better to just play the whole soundtrack from start to finish. Though if I had to pick a favorite, I’d go with “Ezio’s Family” purely for the vocals.

Halo 3 Soundtrack

Listen on Spotify

Created by composers Martin O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori, the Halo 3 soundtrack is one of my all-time favorites — and arguably the best Halo soundtrack altogether. It’s also one of the most extensive soundtracks you’ll find, with 2 discs full of haunting tracks.

While there are some good tracks in both discs, disc 1 has pretty much everything you need to stay focused. It starts off fairly playful with “Luck” and slowly gets more warlike as you go on. So if you were looking for something peaceful and relaxing streamed in your ears, this soundtrack is not for you.

You can listen to the entire epic video game soundtracks on Spotify, with 32 total songs and about 2 hours worth of content.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Soundtrack

Listen on Spotify

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the best video games I’ve ever played, so it’s not surprising that it’s one of the video game soundtracks that found its way into my rotation. Marcin Przybylowicz does a great job of giving each track a medieval feel that really transports you out of your everyday life.

While the whole soundtrack is enjoyable from start to finish, I will warn you that there are some jarring vocals occasionally. In fact, the first track “The Trail” hits you with a voice before any instrumentals even begin. It can be slightly distracting at times if you’re trying to focus on writing, but it’s great for providing an epic feeling to everyday tasks.

All 55 tracks from the soundtrack are available to stream on Spotify, which is about 2 hours worth of content to listen to.
