Perfectly accurate, and props to the film’s creators for squeezing in a “Glengarry Glen Ross” joke. What could possibly go wrong if a storyline pitted gorgeous kids against cuddly pets in a cuteness competition? It seems like a lot. Even a purportedly surefire concept needs constant nurturing, just like any child. Here, “The Boss Baby” frequently strives too hard while accomplishing too little. The 36-page picture book from 2010 by Marla Frazee, whose compelling idea made it a go-to shower present, is part of the issue. In the end, it came down to a sweet metaphor about how a newborn infant dressed in a business suit onesie treats his parents like stressed-out coworkers by holding late-night meetings and squalling demands. This new idea surfaces early in the movie and results in some of the funnier and more realistic scenes.

With only enough material for a cartoon short at first, director Tom McGrath (of the “Madagascar” franchise) and writer Michael McCullers (of the “Austin Powers” sequels, “Baby Mama”) add a sibling rivalry element with an older brother, Tim, who is seven years old. Tim is voiced by Miles Christopher Bakshi, the grandson of animation pioneer Ralph Bakshi of “Fritz the Cat” notoriety, who resent But you shouldn’t waste any more time and start this The Boss Baby quiz. This strategy draws inspiration from the same genetic material that gave Pixar’s “Inside Out” its enormous success—which was inspired by the inner workings of an 11-year-old girl. However, that scenario was well crafted and was inspired in part by how brains actually function. Here, a lack of logic and coherence is frequently exacerbated by a hasty execution that is as disorganized as a week’s worth of soiled diapers. Boss Baby is merely a character in the book. Here, a conveyor belt that decides whether or not an infant joins a family after undergoing a tickling test is shown in a lengthy and uninspired credits scene. If no giggles are heard, the person is labeled “management” and joins the Baby Corp., an organization that competes with Puppy Co., where Tim’s parents also work.

It’s understandable if this doesn’t exactly sound like a bundle of belly-laughing happiness; it isn’t. Also, you will find out which character are you in this The Boss Baby quiz. There are some strained attempts to add zing to the proceedings both visually and narratively. The style is modeled off vintage Warner Bros. animation, with a stylised homage to German Expressionism. However, there are side trips with action sequences incorporating the themes from the ’70s TV shows “S.W.A.T.” and “The Six Million Dollar Man,” as well as a dumb homage to pirate movies, instead of completely exploiting Baldwin’s badass sexiness. We find out that Tim has a wizard replica alarm clock that screams, “Wake up, halflings!” every day at seven o’clock in the morning. Although it’s a neat trinket, it’s not particularly relevant to the situation at hand.

About the quiz

The Beatles’ “Blackbird” is included into “The Boss Baby” as the song Tim’s parents sing him to sleep (leading to a Lennon-McCartney name check) in an attempt by the film’s writers to include appeals for viewers of all ages. They tease with bare bottoms, pixelated baby privates that make you tee-hee, and a little fart that spews baby powder. One of the funnier gags even makes reference to “Baby Jesus” in the script. Yes, include a power nap allusion and a magic potion that is actually baby formula. However, despite how much I enjoyed seeing a group of obese Elvis impersonators making their way to Vegas while using on-screen subtitles to decipher the slurred Presley-ese being spoken, it has little to do with the race-to-the-end conclusion. Also, you must try to play this The Boss Baby quiz. Some pretty recognizable voices are heard as Boss Baby and Tim attempt to discover their common ground as brothers, including an odd occasion with shared pacifiers. None of them, however, make the same lasting impression as Baldwin does. These actors include Tobey Maguire as the adult Tim who narrates, Steve Buscemi as a wicked Puppy Co. boss, Jimmy Kimmel, and Lisa Kudrow as Tim’s parents. In order to put things into perspective, “The Boss Baby” doesn’t give you the same feeling of choking on a hairball that last year’s criminal talking-cat thriller “Nine Lives” did. However, if you’re looking for baby talk, 1989’s “Look Who’s Talking,” with its youngster whose opinions are voiced with smart-aleck vigor by Bruce Willis, would make for a more enjoyable movie night.
