Resistance is futile: For more than two centuries, the women of “80 for Brady” have captivated us with the fascinating, flawed, but always vibrantly human characters they’ve portrayed, along with numerous Oscars, Tonys, and Emmys. They bring everything they’ve learned to director Kyle Marvin’s irresistible film, which is based on the true story of four octogenarians whose devotion to each other is equaled by their devotion to NFL quarterback Tom Brady. It’s a Cinderella tale with four fairy godmothers, but instead of obnoxious step-sisters forcing them to do chores, these women face the humiliations of aging and the limits of mortality. Speaking of magical interventions, Tom Brady, who portrays himself and has a very engaging screen presence, produces the film. When a local radio station offers four Super Bowl tickets to the best story, Trish (Jane Fonda), Lou (Lily Tomlin), Betty (Sally Field), and Maura (Rita Moreno) decide it’s their chance to get away from their various complications and go on a wild adventure to see their beloved Tommy in the 2017 Super Bowl.

Trish, who writes erotic fan fiction about Brady’s teammate Rob Gronkowski, falls in love far too readily and is currently in the process of healing from her most recent heartbreak. Lou is terrified of opening the hospital email to find out if her illness has returned. Betty (Bob Balaban), a retired MIT professor, adores her spouse, but tending to his needs makes her feel erased. And Maura is still in mourning for her late spouse. The television was stuck on a contest between the Patriots and the Jets from 2001. A lesser-known player named Tom Brady was summoned off the bench, kicking off one of the most illustrious careers in sports history. It’s now an annual ritual for the ladies to gather in their team jerseys to watch the game. They’re superstitious, like many sports fans, and start viewing the first game of each season the same way they did the first time, with Betty on a ladder changing a light bulb and Lou knocking over the potato chips.

80 For Brady Quiz

One can sit back and enjoy “80 for Brady,” knowing that nothing here makes logic in terms of “might happen” or “should happen.” This film, like all fairy stories, exists in the realm of “wouldn’t it be wonderful?” What about a musical routine? Yes! And how about some romance? Is it necessary to inquire? Harry Hamlin is dapper, and Glynn Turman is delightful. For the rest of the audience: Are there any vibrant cameos? Yes! Mr. Billy Porter! Fieri, Guy! Is there going to be an update during the closing credits? Without a doubt. What about highlights from thrilling football games? Yep! Also, you will find out which character are you in this 80 For Brady quiz. Much more essential than “Does any of this make sense?” “Are there any surprises in the plot?” are the queries, “Is it entertaining to watch?” “Does it give each of these incredible actors a chance to shine?” Yes, yes, yes, and yes again. With a screenplay written by “Booksmart”‘s Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, a lot happens and things move rapidly, so the parts that don’t work well are quickly forgotten.

About the quiz

These actors make excellent scene partners, and the ensemble sequences are among the film’s highlights. And each makes the most of her alone time. Moreno steals the show in a high-stakes poker game and her deft understated bargaining with a scalper. Field transforms a drab character by revealing her vulnerability and integrity; she even makes an extremely stupid joke about labeling a fanny pack “a strap-on” work. Her insistence that she is not a “80” for Brady because she is still in her 70s is not motivated by vanity; it is motivated by her devotion to mathematical precision. Also, you must try to play this 80 For Brady quiz. Meanwhile, Lou is dealing with secrets about her health and how the trip came together, but she enjoys her position as the one who inspires the others, including Brady. Fonda brings warmth to even the most underwritten part. While one character mockingly refers to the four women as “Golden Girls,” she is not a one-note “isn’t it cute that an old lady likes sex” joke. Rather, she is a tender-hearted but resilient optimist who has been reinventing herself since she became too old for her work as a car dealer spokesmodel. And Fonda’s rapport with “Grace and Frankie” co-star and close friend Lily Tomlin remains electric. “80 for Brady” is more than just these characters proving to themselves that they value their friendships and are still receptive to new experiences. Indeed, it is their mutual support and the realization that they have nothing to lose that makes them more willing to take chances than the two generations younger. That goes for the people who play them as well; it’s a joy to see these women we’ve come to love and respect over the years. They continue to do their best to make us laugh, fantasize about our own exploits, and wish they could live for another two centuries. The film is currently showing in theaters.
