One of the most unique bridges in the world can be found in the immense city of São Paulo, Brazil. The Octávio Frias de Oliveira Bridge has a shape unlike anything else as it takes on the form of an X.

The double decks of this bridge are the only curving decks in the world that are supported by a single mast. This turns this remarkable structure into a fascinating attraction.

The two curved tracks run at an elevation of 12 and 24 meters (39.37 and 78.74 feet) respectively and have a total length of about 900 meters (2,952 feet).

The entire bridge has a length of 1,600 meters (5,200 feet) and the tower reaches a maximum height of 138 meters (453 feet), the equivalent of the average skyscraper.

This cable-stayed bridge crosses the Pinheiros River just southwest of the historical center of the city and connects the Marginal Pinheiros with the Jornalista Roberto Marinho Avenue.

The bridge was named after a successful businessman named Octavio Frias de Oliveira (1912-2007), a man who was born in Rio de Janeiro but who became immensely successful in São Paulo with a newspaper called “Folha de São Paulo.”

He eventually turned this popular newspaper into a media empire called the “Folha Group,” and now has one of the most fascinating bridges in the world named after him.

The best time of the year to admire this wonderful landmark is during the Christmas period. Lights are hung onto it so it takes on the shape of an immense Christmas tree. The same happens on special days or for particular occasions.
