TOP STORY: USMNT’s Weah wants Juve move

Juventus are keen on signing United States men’s national team winger Timothy Weah, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Weah, 23, is reported to be keen on a move to Serie A and is one of the top candidates on the Bianconeri’s shortlist. Weah, who is the son of former Ballon d’Or winner George Weah, has also been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.

Having already reached an agreement over personal terms, Juventus are now set to meet Lille‘s demands over a €15 million fee, although Sky Sports adds that could be negotiated down to €12m. Gazzetta’s report adds that Juventus could send Midfielder Denis Zakaria to Lille in an effort to get the deal done.

12.03 BST: Inter Milan want to sign Chelsea right-back Cesar Azpilicueta to strengthen their defensive line, Sky Italia reports.

Azpilicueta, 33, recently completed his 10th season at Chelsea and made 32 appearances across all competitions. The Spain international, who becomes a free agent in 2024, could leave Chelsea this summer and Inter want to use his experience.

Inter, meanwhile, are waiting to find out if Manchester United will make an offer to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Onana’s agent met with United executives this week, with the Red Devils having monitored the player for some time. But Inter will only consider offers above €50m for the Cameroon international.

11.35 BST: Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin held a meeting with Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourino on Thursday over the possible signing of left-back Javi Galan, Diario AS reports.

Atletico would like to sign an attacking left-back this summer and Galan, 28 — whose offensive statistics have been among LaLiga’s best for full-backs in recent seasons — would fit the bill.

Galan has an €18m release clause but Celta would be willing to listen to offers, AS claims, with Real Sociedad also keen on the player as they prepare for Champions League football next season.

11.20 BST: Dani Ceballos has agreed a four-year contract extension at Real Madrid, the Club confirmed on Friday.

“Real Madrid and Dani Ceballos have agreed the extension of the player’s contract, who will remain at the club until June 30, 2027,” Madrid said in a statement. “Dani Ceballos has worn the Real Madrid shirt in 120 games over four seasons, winning 11 trophies.”

Midfielder Ceballos, 26, has decided to stay at Madrid, having previously considered moving on a free transfer this summer — when his previous deal was due to expire — due to frustration at his role in the team.

“I don’t want a renewal if I don’t deserve it. I want to enjoy myself,” he told Movistar in March.

The Spain international grew in importance as the 2022-23 season went on, eventually making 30 appearances in LaLiga, 19 of them starts — 16 of which came in 2023.

Ceballos joined Madrid from Real Betis as a promising youngster in 2017, but has never cemented a place in the starting line-up, and spent two years on loan at Arsenal between 2019 and 2021.

10.52 BST: Liverpool midfielder Fabio Carvalho will join RB Leipzig on loan until June 2024, says Fabrizio Romano.

Carvalho, 20, played 13 times in the Premier League and is keen to secure first-team football.

Leipzig won’t have an option to sign him permanently, but the deal should be finalised next week.

10.32 BST: Manchester United are preparing a third and potentially final offer for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, sources have told ESPN.

Their new bid is yet to be finalised but sources suggest it is expected to be between £55m-£60m.

Erik ten Hag’s side have had two formal bids for the player rejected in recent days, the latest totalling £50m.

Chelsea were originally holding out for £70m. Although sources suggest that the club are softening their stance over that valuation — they responded to United’s last bid with a £65m counter-proposal — it remains to be seen how much they are willing to compromise in order to complete the deal.

10.15 BST: Real Madrid are trying to solve a “Kylian Mbappe sudoku” according to Diario AS’ frontpage story on Friday, with the club “treating the transfer market as closed” but the player is open to moving and Paris Saint-Germain prefer a €150m deal this summer to losing the player for free next year.

Madrid have left their No. 9 shirt for next season vacant after the departure of Karim Benzema, with new loan arrival Joselu taking the No. 14.

Benzema’s exit for Saudi Arabia threw the LaLiga club’s planning into disarray, as their plan was to reply on the Ballon d’Or winner for one more season before trying to sign Mbappe on a free transfer in June 2024.

09.47 BST: Both Marca and AS report that Real Madrid are the latest club to join the race to sign up-and-coming Fenerbahce star Arda Guler.

According to Marca, Madrid have been tracking the 18-year-old midfielder — who has an €18m release clause — for some time.

Marca reports that Guler would initially line up for Madrid’s reserve team Castilla, while Diario AS claims that Madrid’s preferred formula would be to loan him back to Fenerbahce so he can continue his development there, although the player is keen to leave Turkey.

09.07 BST: Real Betis have reached a preliminary agreement to sign Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca on loan for the 2023-24 campaign, according to Estadio Deportivo.

Roca, 26, made 32 league appearances for Leeds last season but could not help the club avoid relegation.

The Spaniard is under contract with Leeds until June 2026 but has a relegation release clause that he will exercise to join Betis this summer.

09.00 BST: Former Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphaël Guerreiro has signed for Bayern Munich.

Guerreiro, 29, left Dortmund on a free transfer this summer and has moved to their Bundesliga rivals.

08.40 BST: Spanish veteran goalkeeper Pepe Reina has signed a one-year contract extension with Villarreal, the club announced.

Reina, 40, made 32 appearances across all competitions since returning to Villarreal last summer.

08.28 BST: Manchester City are preparing to rival Arsenal in the race to sign Declan Rice by making a formal offer for the West Ham United midfielder, sources told ESPN.

City have been monitoring developments as Arsenal had two bids rejected earlier this month for the 24-year-old, the latest of which totalled £90m comprising £75m and a further £15m in add-ons.

Sources have told ESPN that City were waiting for Ilkay Gundogan to decide his future before moving for a new midfielder, and now that he has chosen to turn down a new deal to join Barcelona, Pep Guardiola’s side are ready to act.

West Ham value Rice in excess of £100m and Arsenal are expected to return with a third offer. It remains to be seen how much City are willing to bid but the Premier League champions signalling their interest will likely drive up the fee.

Sources have told ESPN that Arsenal were confident that Rice wanted to move to Emirates Stadium but City will test that confidence, especially given they can tempt West Ham with a player-plus-cash deal.

08.00 BST: The consortium BlueCo, which purchased Chelsea last year, has reached an agreement to become majority shareholders of French club Strasbourg, the Premier League club said on Thursday.

The agreement will see BlueCo invest in Strasbourg’s first teams and academy while Marc Keller will remain the club’s president having been at the helm since 2012 when the club was at risk of being liquidated.

Strasbourg have since moved up from the third tier to Ligue 1 where they have played for the last six seasons and also won the French League Cup in 2019. They finished 15th in Ligue 1 last season.

“This is an important day for Racing [Club de Strasbourg]. It’s something my shareholder friends and I have been thinking about for the past two years,” Keller said in a statement. “We’ve built a club that’s healthy at every level and well managed. Although there was no financial urgency, we were aware that we had reached the ceiling of our model.

“If we wanted to continue driving Racing forward and projecting it into a new dimension, we necessarily needed to be accompanied by a solid structure capable of supporting our development and our ambition.”

Details of the stake were not disclosed but sources told ESPN the consortium will have close to a 100% ownership having paid €75m.

– Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Juventus winger Federico Chiesa. The Bianconeri are said to be considering parting ways with the 25-year-old this summer amid uncertainty over whether he plans to extend his stay at the club. Chiesa contributed to 10 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions last season and is on the radar of clubs in Europe.

– Paris Saint-Germain will look to move forward Kylian Mbappe on if he has no plans to sign a new contract at the club, reports Mundo Deportivo. Mbappe, 24, still has a year left on his deal at the Parc des Princes, but after indicating that he has no intentions of activating his one-year optional extension clause, PSG want clarity over his situation to reduce the risk of losing him on a free transfer. The 28-year-old is said to be interested in a switch to Craven Cottage, while the Saints will allow him to leave if they receive an offer in the region of £30m. Ward-Prowse remained a key player for the Saints last season, but his 13 goal contributions in 38 games weren’t enough to keep the club in the Premier League.
