Former Premier League Players Currently in the MLS

At the start of the most recent MLS season, there were many ex-Premier League players listed in the league. The link included here is intentionally outdated. While it was only written in July 2022, you can already see that most of the major players who were in the league are no longer playing; Gareth Bale, Gonzalo Higuain, Alexandre Pato. The MLS is used by a lot of ageing stars as one last payday as the league is not considered to have the same level of competitiveness as European divisions. That is not to say that some Ex Premier League players haven’t crossed the ocean over to the MLS and created a successful career for themselves.

Carlos Vela struggled to get first-team playing time in The Premier League while he was at Arsenal, but his move over to the MLS has been a huge success for him, giving him a great career that he still continues today by playing for Los Angeles FC.

Football, or Soccer in America, is becoming a more popular sport, which means it is always becoming a common betting choice for sport betting in Canada and globally alike. A safe bet in the MLS is backing Kei Kamara to score. Kamara who currently plays for Chicago Fire. At the time of writing, he is the 3rd all-time top goal scorer in MLS with 139 goals to his name, He is just behind Landan Donavon on 145 goals and Chris Wondolowski on 171 goals. The league also has Victor Wanyama playing for FC Montreal, Wanyama will be most famous in the Premier League for the incredible goal he scored against Liverpool in 2018, with many calling it the goal of the decade.

Spaniard Carles Gil plays for New England Revolution while another former Aston Villa player Michael Bradley plays for Toronto Fc. He only played 3 games for Villa in 2011 while on loan, but it still counted. Deandre Yedlin is part of Phil Neville’s outfit at Inter Miami, while Jozy Altidore links up with Gil at New England Revolution.

Long-serving goalkeeper Brad Guzan Atlanta united, a team that was formerly managed by ex Manchester United Full back Gabriel Heinze. Another former Manchester United boy Javier Hernandez plays for LA Galaxy where he has built up quite an impressive goal record for the club. Hernandez is still fan favourite in Manchester and that love has travelled over to America. Danny Wilson who played 2 games for Liverpool is now earning his money at Colorado Rapids. Finally, Champions League winner Xherdan Shaqiri plays for Chicago Fire, having played for Stoke and Liverpool in the Premier League.

Wazza At The Wheel At DC United

Premier League Legend Wayne Rooney is currently the manager of DC United, a club he played for towards the end of his career. In his team he has former Premier League players, Christina Benteke, former Leeds United Player Mateusz Klich and Ravel Morrison. Morrison has always been well known in English football, but usually for his actions off the pitch as opposed to those on it. Many footballers and ex-footballers have been quick to call him one of the most naturally gifted players they have ever seen, however, he has lacked the discipline to get himself a consistent amount of game time.

While he has played more games for United than he has at most of the other teams he has played for, he is still yet to find a long string of games, with the time on his career beginning to run out. Benteke leads the line for the team having played for many big clubs in the premier league. He has had his fair share of spells where he has struggled to score goals but has proven on many occasions that he has the skill to be in the right place at the right time. DC also have Lewis O’Brien in the ranks, with him being on loan at DC United from Nottingham Forrest. While he is building a good squad in the capital, some are still wondering whether DC United should stick with Wayne Rooney moving into the future.

Premier League Managers

While Phil Neville has yet to manage a team in the Premier League, he played in it for a long time. Having been assistant manager under his brother at Valencia and then Manager of England Women’s, he is now coach of Inter Miami. Former Swansea manager Bob Bradley is also currently manager of Los Angeles FC.

Bradley had a very short lived spell at Swansea which was the subject of much mockery in the British media, with him becoming a figure very similar to TV’s Ted Lasso, just without the moustache. So it goes to show that making the jump between America and Europe when it comes to football can be difficult either way, but it has results in some great sporting moments.
