PoE 3.17 new Altas

Together with new mechanics, you will see the new approach to unlocking the Atlas. There is no need to farm a region as they have been removed. The maps have more straightforward linking and you will find it easier to unlock all the maps. Starting from the 3.17 patch there will be a bottom-top perspective.

Watchstones will be removed from the game and all hidden maps will be added to the Atlas. No need to unlock any of them. But you will be able to upgrade the tiers of the maps in the Atlas by implementing Voidstones that will drop from new Atlas bosses and Maven. There are four of them and each will upgrade all the maps at once. Eventually, all the maps will become tier 16.

  • The Conqueror and Awakener encounters can still be accessed. If you’re lucky, Kirac may offer a Conqueror’s Map!
  • Kirac can now offer missions involving Expedition, Ritual, Heist, and Ambush mechanics.
  • Introduced new modifiers that can roll on Maps, Expedition Logbooks, Heist Contracts, Blueprints and Delve areas.
  • Introduced new modifiers that can be obtained from Sextants.

  • The Orb of Unmaking no longer drops from Maven.
  • The Hook Divination Card has been temporarily disabled, and existing cards cannot be turned in currently.
  • Added a new Harvest craft that allows you to change a Conqueror Fragment into another random Conqueror Fragment of that type.
  • Added a new Harvest craft that allows you to sacrifice a Tier 14 Map or higher to create a random Conqueror-occupied Map.
  • Existing Scourged Maps no longer mention any Scourge gameplay mechanics on the item, as they will now have no effect.

Favoured Map slots

You will see new user-friendly changes. But they are not only visual. Now Favoured Map slots will influence the drop rate of the maps that you marked favourite. You will see the new area for the Favoured Maps slots on the left of the Atlas page.

There will be 12 slots and each of them unlocks when you complete the task mentioned when you hover it. You can pick any map as your favourite and any number of times. If you choose one map 12 times you will increase its drop rate by 120 times.

New Atlas Mechanics

After defeating Kitava, you will meet Commander Kirac in the Karui Shores and join his militia to safeguard the Atlas of Worlds. The Envoy will inform you that two Eldritch Horrors, The Searing Exarch and The Eater of Worlds, are approaching and will consume everything.

By completing maps affected by their influence, you can hunt down their sub-bosses, The Black Star and The Infinite Hunger, before finally facing The Searing Exarch and The Eater of Worlds themselves. Defeating these formidable foes yields valuable rewards including exclusive new unique items.

The Atlas of Worlds has been revised, and regions have been removed. The regional Atlas Passive Trees have been replaced with one gigantic Atlas-wide Passive Tree that affects all maps you run. You can earn points by completing bonus objectives of maps and finishing certain Atlas quests.

The Watchstone system has also been removed and replaced with Voidstones which are obtained by defeating The Uber Elder, The Maven, The Searing Exarch and The Eater of Worlds. These Voidstones raise the tiers of maps on your Atlas and can be augmented by Sextants.

Commander Kirac features

Kirac will replace Zana in Siege of the Atlas. So you can say goodbye to Zana missions. Now, this option is provided by Kirac, but with some changes.

Now you can interact with Kirac and see the pool of maps with missions that he offers. Yes, you don’t need to find him on the map and enter another map while you are on the current map. Also, you can reroll the missions that he has using Scouting Reports a new type of currency guaranteeing at least one mission of a certain type. Among other benefits like better drop and higher tier maps in the Kirac missions pool there is also one important thing – Kirac mission can have influenced maps (by Conquerors, for example).

Kirac also will have a shop similar to Zana’s shop but it will contain better maps ant maps related items.

Sextants changes

Major changes will influence sextants. Now they can drop only from tier 14 maps and higher. Also, sextants now will be applied to Voidstones. And when you apply such Voidstone to your Atlas it will influence all the maps on it.

Voidstones are high-tier content and so simple and prime quality sextants are removed from the game. Their mods will be added to the pool of the Awakened sextants, which now will be easier to get. All the simple and prime sextants that you have on the standard league will be upgraded to Awakened sextants. Elevated sextants remain the same. Therefore all the mods that can roll on sextants changed and you will see new mods.

To leave the ability to use different modes in the future or to sell some sextant modes you will see a new currency item called Surveyor’s Compass. It will extract a sextant modifier and store it for later. Surveyor’s Compass items will drop or can be purchased from Kirac.

The new Atlas Passive skill tree

This also touches the new Atlas Passive skill tree. It will be absolutely new with a huge number of nodes that will influence league specific content on your maps. But we will tell you more about it in a separate post as soon as we get to know more information.

New Atlas bosses

In Path of Exile 3.17, two new major bosses will be added to the game – The Searing Exarch and The Eater of Worlds.

They will be accompanied by sub-bosses, The Black Star and The Infinite Hunger. You will need to collect influence to eventually get to the two major bosses in Path of Exile. This topic we will describe in all the details later in a new post.

Influenced Maps changes

Even though Sirus has been removed from the Atlas you will still be able to find him in the maps.

Similar to Elder and Shaper that have their influenced maps you will now be able to find maps influenced by one of the Sirus’ Conquerors. Such a map will contain a Citadel of the Sirus’ Conqueror. These maps can be dropped on high-tier maps or purchased from Kirac. Of course, you will see influenced items drop there. To get to the Sirus you will need to kill a Conqueror and get its fragment. Each Conqueror has its fragment. Combine all four at the map device and you will enter the Sirus.

Taking everything into the account awakened gems will no longer drop from Sirus or his Conquerors! Instead, they now can drop from Maven’s invitations.

These are only several major changes to the Atlas that will come on 4th February to Poe. We will write a lot of guides soon enough.
