Charli XCX – Enemy

In “enemy”, Charli realizes that her boyfriend is closer to her than her friends are, and wonders if he is actually an enemy.

This plays off the famous phrase “keep your friends close but your enemies closer” which was popularized by The Godfather Part II.

“enemy” was first teased by Charli with lyrics she posted to her Twitter page on April 8 2020.

She later played the song on her Instagram Live session on April 10 2020, revealing that it was produced by frequent collaborator BJ Burton.
