Aspirants eyeing National Working Committee (NWC) positions in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, rushed to beat deadlines for submission of nomination forms

The party (PDP) had extended closing date for the submission of duly completed forms from Saturday, October 16 to Tuesday, October 19, 2021. It also extended sale of nomination forms for National officers for the October 30 to 31 national convention from the earlier announced date of Friday, October 15, 2021 to Sunday, October 17, 2021.

Accordingly, the date for the screening of aspirants for various national offices was also adjusted to Wednesday, October 20, 2021, while consideration of appeals arising from the screening exercise is now scheduled for Saturday, October 23, 2021.

While submitting her form, a former Minister of Women Affairs and one-time National Woman Leader of the party, Hajia Maryam Ina Ciroma, who is seeking the position of Deputy National Chairman (North), said she joined the race to unite Nigerians.

“As part of this goal, I am privileged to be concluding, today, a unique aspect of the founding principles of the PDP, a principle that espouses the values of diversity, the strengthening of national cohesion through zoning and rotation, as well as the pursuit of inclusive representation for both women and men,” she said.

On his part, a former member of the House of Representatives, Debo Olugun-Agba, who is vying for the office of National Publicity Secretary, said it is important for the PDP to rescue Nigeria from poverty, insecurity and unemployment.

“As a party, there is hope for the country, and we must get it right in the PDP to restore that hope to Nigerians,” he said.

Prof. Stella Effa-Attoe also submitted her nomination form for the position of National Woman Leader, promising to harness the potentials of women for nation building.

She said: “People have asked: why are you going for National Woman Leader, why not any other position? I said well, in as much as National Woman Leader is zoned to my zone, I normally would go for it because of my passion for women.”

She added: “Over the years, I’ve been involved deeply in women issues. Apart from being a female politician, I have done a lot of work in the academic field concerning women and gender issues. So, I am deeply rooted in gender and women issues, not only practically, but theoretically.”
