NYSC Restates Commitment To Mobilization Of Corps Members

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Nigeria, Brigadier General Ibrahim Shuaiba says the scheme remains committed to the success of the mobilization of corps members.

He stated this while declaring open the 2021 batch’ B’ Pre-mobilization workshop with the theme; “Sustainable Mobilization Process: The Role Of Stakeholders” held in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The Director-General disclosed that the pre-mobilization workshop signals the commencement of the service year with the constructive engagement of NYSC state schedule officers and some of the collaborating partners.

He said that the Pre-mobilization workshop is a process of strategizing for a smooth service year, especially through a resolution that will be made, during the workshop.

The Director-General said that the scheme has made numerous successes in its 48 years of existence in the country.

Ibrahim also acknowledged the roles played by critical stakeholders as partly responsible for the achievement attained by the scheme especially through ideas emanating from forums such as the workshop.

“As a matter of fact, management is delighted at the significant gains arising from our recent engagements, including the noticeable improvements in data integrity, reduction in entry errors and renewed dedication by Student  Affairs and Data Entry Officers of producing institutions,’’ he said.

He noted that the main pre-occupation of the management of NYSC is to ensure that the scheme remains viable to national needs.

The DG then expressed his satisfaction with the significant gains made recently by the scheme.

Despite the significant gains made by the scheme, the Director-General acknowledged few cases of wrongdoings that have been identified; he, therefore, warned that erring institutions and officials will be sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others.

He further says that officials participating in the mobilization of corps members are on critical national assignment, he, therefore, advised the officials to shun corrupt practices.

“I want to urge each and every one of us not to be a party to destroying this great nation through the corruption of our education system ethical standards are very important and I think we should maintain them,’’ he said.

The registrar of JAMB also stressed that the examination body does not change names of candidates but corrects of spelling errors of names adding that the National Identification Number (NIN) crashed examination malpractice.

Speaking further on the pre-mobilization workshop, the Director, Corps Mobilization, Mrs Victoria Ango said the workshop is a forum where stakeholders access the mobilization process for better service delivery.

Ango says achieving an error-free mobilization process requires a change in attitude by stakeholders.

“It gladdens my heart to note that we have in recent times experienced impressive performance, leading to a great reduction in the mobilisation of unqualified persons,’’ she said.

The 2021 Batch B’ Pre-Mobilization process workshop which started on 28th June is expected to end on 1st of July, 2021.
