1894-S Barber Dime – $1,997,500
The 1894-S Barber Dime is one of the rare US coins according to PCGS coin trackers. There are only nine examples known today. The proof is a copy of the coin that was never struck. There were originally 24. In January 2016, one was sold for $1.997,500. The dime has Lady Liberty profiled on the front, and a wreath with “One Dime,” stamped in the middle. It was proof, but a few were in circulation. One of them appeared in 1957 in the Gimbels Department Store, in New York City.
This coin has a charming tale that could be true or not. Legend has it that, because the San Francisco Mint Superintendent knew the coin was rare, he gave three to his daughter. One of the three coins was spent on ice cream by the daughter as she returned from the San Francisco Mint. More of maythis super-valuable dime have been discovered, even if the story is not true.
1792 Silver Disme, $998.750
The 1792 silver dime, which was bought for $998.750 in April 2016, is the second most valuable dime. Only three examples of the 1792 silver disease are known. It was struck before the US Mint officially began operations. The front of the dime has a flowing-hair portrait, which could be a likeness of Martha Washington, the first lady of the United States or Lady Liberty.
Legend has it that George Washington gave his permission for this coin to be minted, which was then known as a dime. The coin is extremely rare and has a strong association with Washington. This makes it one of the most expensive dimes. A total of 2,000 half-dimes were produced at the same time. In 2021, a collector found one in an old junk box. It’s unlikely that you’ll ever find a full disme floating around. However, it doesn’t hurt to keep looking.
1796 Liberty Dime: $881,250
A particularly fine example of 1796 Liberty Dime, one of the oldest US coins, sold for $881.250 in June 2014. The coin in question was in very good condition, and it may have been one of the original strikes. The front shows Lady Liberty with her hair partially pulled back. On the back is “United States of America”, and an eagle.
This example is valuable due to its age, rarity and condition. More than 22,0001796 dimes have been struck but many are missing or in bad condition. Even in poor condition, they are worth thousands.
1873-CC No Arrows Dime – $632,500
An 1873 dime can be valuable by itself, but an error makes it even more so. The 1873 No Arrows Dime is missing the standard arrows on either side of the stamped year on the front of the coin. A beautiful example was sold in April 1999 for $632,000. It shows Lady Liberty sitting and holding a shield on the front. The back of the card has “One Dime”, surrounded by a wreath.
Mint records show that in 1873, 12,400 dimes were made in Carson City without arrows. When the Mint realized the error, it melted the dimes to make new coins. It’s possible that someone traded a regular dimes for this coin, saving it from melting. Only one is known to exist.
1873-CC Dime With Arrows – $552,000
The regular 1873 dime may not be as rare as the No Arrows dimes, but it is still an extremely uncommon coin. Only 18,791 coins were produced in Carson City. Most of them have been destroyed or lost. Most of the 135 coins that are estimated to still exist are heavily worn. In 2022, one of the three known mint-states was sold for $552,000. This design is identical to the No Arrows Dime but has arrows on either side of the date.
The 1873-CC Dime is worth thousands of dollars in any condition. However, its condition increases the value. If you can find an 1873 CC dime, in any condition, it is likely to be worth thousands.
1975 No S Roosevelt Dime – $456,000
The 1975 No S Roosevelt Dime is a collector’s item due to a minting error. The coin was made at the San Francisco Mint, and the S mark should have been above the date to identify its origin. A few coins did not have the mark. The San Francisco Mint had a very high standard of quality control and destroyed all the coins except two. Two of the coins that were not destroyed by the San Francisco Mint were in proof sets for 1975 coins. Both had been purchased by a California coin collector.
This 1975 Roosevelt dime is the most valuable in existence due to its No S error. In 2019, one of two known examples was sold for $456,000. Even though you might not find it in your spare change if you’re lucky, keep an eye out for any minting errors. The errors are rare, and they add value.
1822 Cameo dime – $440.625
Proofs in mint condition are extremely popular and can increase the value of a coin that would otherwise be valuable. Only 100,000 dimes were minted in 1822, which is less than 10% of the amount of dimes that were minted in 1821. Proof copies of these dimes, however, are nearly impossible to locate. Heritage Auctions reported that only two proofs are known to exist. One was sold in 2014 for $440,625.
The Cameo dime features Lady Liberty as a profile, similar to a brooch. She is wearing a “Liberty’ headdress and is surrounded by stars. On the other side, there is an eagle with a shield. It’s worth having a Cameo dime appraised, especially if it is from 1822. This coin is not proof, but it’s still rare.
1797 13 Stars Dime (402,500 dollars)
A beautifully preserved example sold in 2008 for $402,500. The 1797 13 Stars Dime deserves to be on the list. It is surprising that at this early stage in the US Mint’s history, dimes had different designs with different numbers of stars. Other design elements could also be different. Some dimes had 15, 16, or even 13 stars. estimates that only 50 13 Stars dime coins survive.
The value of most examples can be impacted by their condition. Two coins are known to be in such pristine condition. This is the reason they are so valuable.
1841 No Drapery Dime $312,000
Standard 1841 dime depicts a seated Liberty draped in modest fabric covering her arms and body. A rare proof version of the coin had a subtle difference: her drapery left her arm bare. Only two examples of this coin are known, one of which sold for $312,000 at an auction in 2022.
This coin is valuable because of its rarity. There are also some questions about how and why it was created. Some people believe it was over-polished and the drapery detail was removed. It is more likely that it was part of a proof set.
1871-CC Seated Dime – $270,250
The 1871-CC coin, which has a design similar to that of the 1841 dime with Lady Liberty seated, is extremely rare in mint condition. It is unknown how many of these coins exist, but there are not many. It is not uncommon for an example to fetch a high price. In 2014, one sold for 270 250.
Only an estimated 110 of these dimes survive. Over 20,000 such dimes were produced in Carson City in 1871 (the first year the mint produced dimes). Even if they aren’t in perfect condition, any example is still valuable. Even worn 1871-CC dime still sells for thousands of dollars. The CC stamp is located on the backside of the dime, under the centre of the wreath.
1798 Small 8 Dimes – $253,000
The 1798 dime is very similar to the dime described above. Lady Liberty is shown in profile with a ribbon in the long hair of her head. Just below the portrait, you will find the year. In some variants of the 1798 dime, the 8 is smaller than the other numbers. The coin also comes in a version with a regular-sized 8
Only 27 small 8 dimes from 1798 are known. The rarity of this coin and its age increase its value. Coins in excellent condition can be worth a lot. In 2008, a beautiful dime was sold for $253,000.
Mercury Dime, 1919-D – $218.500
A 1919-D in remarkably good condition sold at auction for $218.500 in 2000. The coin was minted in nearly 10 million pieces, but it is very difficult to find one in good condition.
Mercury dimes feature Lady Liberty. However, because of her winged headdress, many people mistakenly think that Mercury is the Roman god for commerce, communication and more. Mercury dimes aren’t always very valuable. However, they stopped producing them in 1945. Older coins are usually worth more than their face value.
1874-CC Arrows Dime – $216,000
Only 10,817 Arrows dime were minted at Carson City in 1874. This makes it one of the most rare dimes of the time. Most of the 10,817 dimes were minted and circulated, where they became worn out or lost. It is estimated that only 80 of the 10,817 coins remain. Very few of them are in mint condition.

1860-O Seated Dime $192,000
This dime is rare because it was only minted in a limited number of pieces. However, finding one in good condition is even more difficult. Mercury Dime, 1942/1941-1941-D, Overdate – 350 dollars
The 1942/1941 Mercury dime is one of the most valuable Mercury coins that you may still have in your wallet. Some 1942 dimes were produced in Denver with dies from both 1941 and 1942 during World War II. It’s worth at least a few hundred bucks, but it may be worth even more.
