Sony Xperia 1 V design revealed on billboards

Sony is unveiling the Xperia 1 Mk V in ten days. The device was teased over two months ago with a similar design to its predecessors, but now we have a confirmation of the looks. The new flagship appeared on a billboard in Hong Kong, revealing the three-camera vertical design with a more significant oval island and more prominent lenses.

A photo of the billboard appeared on Reddit, revealing the new Xperia 1 will be advertised to be “one for all lights” and will have “the next-gen double low-noise camera sensor”.

Previous reports were Sony is implementing an IMX 989 sensor for the main cam but it might go for the IMX858 for the main shooter because it is the only platform that supports the new low-noise mode LN2 in combination with MCSS (Multi-Camera Synchronisation System).

The way LN2 works is it implements a new architecture of the CMOS sensor technology. Instead of applying photodiodes and pixel transistors on the same substrate and plane, they are now stacked one on top of the other, thus expanding dynamic range, allowing more light and reducing noise without affecting the overall performance of the phone.

Sony does not have the habit of teasing specs like other manufacturers; this means we’ll learn everything about the camera capabilities of the Xperia 1 V on May 11 at the launch.

Thanks for the tip, Josip!
