Disney+ Hotstar Adds Daredevil, The Punisher, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Defenders May 21

Disney+ Hotstar is getting more Marvel shows — those that were previously on Netflix — on Saturday, May 21. On Tuesday afternoon, the Disney Star-operated streaming service announced that all 13 seasons of Netflix’s six Marvel Cinematic Universe series will soon be offered on Disney+ Hotstar. Including daredevil with Charlie Cox, Jessica Jones piloted by Krysten Ritter, Luke Cage with Mike Colter, the group led by Finn Jones iron fistthe limited-edition crossover The Defenders, and The Punisher with Jon Bernthal. daredevil And Jessica Jones have three seasons each, while Luke Cage, iron fistAnd The Punisher ran for two each.

For those wondering how Netflix series are going to end up on Disney+ Hotstar, it’s because Netflix never owned them to begin with. They were made in partnership with the defunct Marvel Television, and were therefore licensed from its parent company Disney. When the Mouse House planned its own Disney+ streaming service that would be home to the new MCU series – more deeply tied to MCU movies than ever before – Netflix began cutting all of its Marvel productions. (Plus, they were very expensive because they were filmed in New York.) Jessica Jones season 3 in June 2019 was the last, before Disney+ launched in the United States in November 2019.

But the Netflix Marvel series remained on Netflix even after the launch of Disney+, thanks to the contract between Netflix and Marvel Television. The contract expired last year, it seems, as Marvel Studios began integrating its characters into the larger MCU. Back in December daredevilWilson Fisk / Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) was part of the Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld series Hawk Eye. And then later that month, in the interdimensional Spider-Man: No Way Home that united the three Spider-Man eras of Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland, Daredevil/Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is introduced as a lawyer – his day job – after months of fan speculation and expectation.

Then, on March 16, all six — daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, iron fistThe Defenders and The Punisher – have been made available on Disney+ in the US and other territories. But there was no word from Disney+ Hotstar then, until now. Come May 21, More MCUs – But Not All, Like Runaways and Helstrom are still missing – is now on Disney+ Hotstar. We might even see more daredevil as a March report claimed that Disney+ and Marvel Studios were working on a Daredevil reboot. But there’s been no word on the others, and it looks like they’re dead and buried for now. Of course, in the MCU, you never say never.

daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, iron fistThe Defenders and The Punisher hit Disney+ Hotstar on Saturday, May 21 in India. While Disney+ has had to add new parental control settings thanks to the more mature nature of the Netflix Marvel series, Disney+ Hotstar — which already hosts mature content like HBO — is asking subscribers to review existing parental control settings to “ensure the most suitable viewing experience for you and your family.
