Samsung Announces Improved Bixby – Samsung Global Newsroom

Samsung’s smart interface improves performance and gives users greater control options

Samsung Electronics today announced new updates to Bixby that improve the user experience, performance, and capabilities of the smart assistant and platform. The new updates bring significant improvements to Bixby’s capability with improved language recognition, giving users greater control over their mobile experience.

When Samsung first launched Bixby as a voice assistant, it was part of a vision to create a human-machine interface that makes life easier and can evolve over time with Samsung Galaxy innovation.said YoungJip Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Artificial Intelligence Team at Mobile eXperience Business, Samsung Electronics. “Today we’re introducing updates to create a smarter, more proactive and adaptive interface, giving users more control over their mobile experience.”

Give people greater control over their mobile experience

New Bixby updates bring several new features and improvements that allow users to further customize their user experience, including the recent availability of Bixby Text Call1 In English. Now English speakers can answer calls from anywhere by typing a message, which Bixby converts to audio and communicates directly to the caller on their behalf.

Users can also customize their Bixby Text Call voice. Using the new Bixby Custom Voice Creator,2 users can record different phrases for Bixby to analyze and create an AI-generated copy of their voice and pitch. Currently available in Korean, this generated voice should be compatible with other Samsung apps beyond phone calls. And for those who want to customize their wake word, Bixby now supports custom alarm clock changes.3 phrase in Bixby settings as well, adding a new option to create a custom wake phrase.

From smart assistant to smart platform

Today, Bixby can provide more seamless continuity and better meet user needs with the introduction of new scenarios,4 including playing music based on exercise type in Samsung Health or saving schedules in Calendar. Now, Bixby can better understand intent and process follow requests by understanding context and associating words previously used in interactions. For example, Bixby users can start a workout on Samsung Health first, then ask Bixby to play music.5 best suited for this exercise by saying “Put on some music for this workout”.

Improved language recognition, processing and response

Along with these exciting new features, Samsung has also extended AI support on the Bixby device.6 Users can perform key commands completely offline, such as setting a timer, taking a screenshot, or turning on the flashlight. By integrating on-device AI with its native apps,7 Samsung was able to further expand its language offering8 and capabilities with advanced AI-based voice dictation. These Bixby updates will be made possible by the powerful innovation of Samsung Galaxy devices, including cutting-edge performance that enables on-device AI applications.
