How Tinubu’s Family Escaped being infected by Covid-19 after his aide died from the disease

The family of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was thrown into a fix after the Chief Security Officer of the elder statesman, Lateef Raheem died of COVID-19 complications. There were fears that the CSO may have transmitted the contagious disease to Tinubu, who may have also spread it to other members of his household.

To arrest the situation, the APC leader and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu alongside all their aides went in for the COVID-19 test on Saturday, April 25. But when the results came in on Monday, April 27, both Tinubu and his wife tested negative for the virus.

The result of one of the aides who may have come in close contact with the deceased CSO was positive, while the rest were negative.

According to a statement released by Tinubu’s Media Adviser, Tunde Rahman, the aide who tested positive has been isolated in accordance with NCDC guidelines.

“Further contact tracing and COVID-19 tests are being conducted by the NCDC with regard to the relatives and possible contacts of that staff member,” he said.

“Asiwaju has stressed that openness and transparency must be observed if we are to defeat this disease. There is no house immune to its entry. Contracting the virus should not bring social or moral stigma any more than contracting malaria or a common cold,” Rahman added.

Just about ten days ago, President Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari died after battling COVID-19 for nearly a month. And just like Tinubu’s case, there were also fears about Kyari infecting the president with the virus. But after undergoing a test, both Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were declared negative.

Nigeria has seen rising cases of Coronavirus recently. As at 11:50 pm on April 28, the country has recorded a total of 1,532 confirmed cases with 255 recoveries and 44 deaths.
