Senator Abbo: “Punishment For Assault Is Up To 10 Years” – Police reacts

The controversy stirred by Senator Elisha Abbo, by slapping a nursing mother in a sex toy shop, does not strike as one that Nigerians will forget anytime soon.

CSP Dolapo Badmus, the public relations officer of the Lagos Command of the police force has reacted to the trending video that showed Senator Elisha Abbo assaulting a woman in a sex toy shop.

“The offence of assault is created by section 113 of the Criminal Code. A person is guilty of this offence if they unlawfully offer or attempt, with force or violence, to strike, beat, wound, or do bodily harm to another is liable to at least one year imprisonment and if the assault is aggravated… punishment is up to 10 years!”

Meanwhile, the Senate has set up a committee to look into the situation after several Nigerians on social media demanded that the senator steps down.
