Wedding in Hyderabad turns tragic as wall collapses and kills four guests

A wedding in Hyderabad’s Amberpet turned into a tragedy on Sunday when the wall of the wedding hall collapsed and killed four people. Of the six guests injured, the condition of one of them is reportedly critical.

The incident took place at Pearl Garden function hall at Golnaka in Amberpet around 2 pm when after lunch, the guests were waiting on the other side of the wall, which is used as a parking area, The Hindu reported.

In the incident, two auto-rickshaws and 10 two-wheelers were also damaged. Rescue teams of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had soon launched the operation to clear the debris and rescue the victims.

The rescue team pulled out the victims — Vijayalaxmi, Krishna, Sohail, Suresh and Majeed — from the debris and rushed them to Osmania General Hospital. While Krishna, Sohail and Suresh succumbed during the treatment, Vijayalaxmi was declared brought dead, according to Deccan Chronicle. The condition of Majeed is critical as he reportedly fractured his left leg, left hand and ribs.

According to The Times of India, the police have registered a case under Section 304A (negligence causing death) against the hall owner, Nawaz, who reportedly is at large. Teams have been formed to nab the accused.

According to police, the marriage hall was newly renovated, and Sunday’s wedding was the first event after the renovation. The preliminary investigation revealed that the wall collapsed due to poor renovation. Police also said that the renovation was done without permission from the authorities.

Meanwhile, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
