“West Michigan” (2021): Good-Hearted Story Tediously Told
The independent domestic drama “West Michigan” revolves in and around a sincere soul and spirit. At it’s core is the issue of suicide, specifically as considered by a Michigan teenager played by Chloe Ray. The stop-you-in-your-tracks gorgeous redhead delivers a fine turn here as Hannah, a young woman contending quietly with both depression and a stalker ex-boyfriend.
Writer and Director Riley Warmoth (Ray’s real life brother) plays Hannah’s supportive older sibling, Charlie. And while their chemistry at times provides compelling moments here, a dragging pace and less than inspiring dialogue too often find “West Michigan” going south.
