Lonnie Dangerous is a veteran musician and multifaceted creator based in Hollywood, California. He made his professional debut as a recording artist in 2012 with the LP Just the Tip. Since then, the prolific rapper has released four albums, over a dozen singles, and now a new EP.
Originally from Chester, Pennsylvania, Lonnie Dangerous overcame the abuse and neglect of a difficult childhood to become a successful multi-tooled entertainer. His work as an actor has brought him to the silver screen. He has toured extensively as both a musician and comedian, performing on iconic stages like Whisky A Go Go and The Rainbow Room.
The Sex Tape is the brand new EP from Lonnie Dangerous, released worldwide via all major streaming services on March 14, 2024. The four-song set opens with “I Know It’s Real”. Ambient synths ride a hard drill beat as the rapper sets a hypnotic tone with his melodic and rhythmic flow.
On “Don’t Play with Me” sampled strings play a Middle Eastern melody over a dark sawtooth bass and a sexy downtempo R&B/hyperpop groove, as the singer warns, “play with the kids, don’t play with me”. Lonnie Dangerous has a knack for crafting catchy, unique yet familiar-sounding melodies.
He uses those skills to great effect as we fall right into the troubled love story of the classic 90s-style R&B vibe, “It’s My Fault”. The record then comes full circle on the closer. Lonnie Dangerous pulls no punches on “Broken Dreams”, a hard autobiographical lyrical hip-hop jam.
