Nicholas E. Ballen is an independent classical music composer who made his professional recording debut in 2023. Working with studio musicians around the world, he introduced his work with the release of four sonatas for solo piano and a four part composition for string quartet. Although a fan of all musical genres, classical is Nick’s first love and he cites the work of Mozart, Hadyn, and Beethoven as inspiration. 

When not in the studio, Nicholas E. Ballen can be found engaged in his day job as an attorney. A native of Washington DC and now based in Chicago, Ballen returned to piano in 2016 after a fifteen-year hiatus, and began composing two years later. He is a self-taught pianist and composer, and a lifelong fan of Classical music. 

Sonata in G Minor (Op. 7) is the brand new EP from composer Nicholas E. Ballen, released worldwide via all major streaming services on February 29, 2024. The solo piano piece is performed in three parts by internationally acclaimed American pianist, Haley Myles. From the cinematic themes of the up-tempo (allegretto) first movement to timeless melodies of the closing rondo, Ballen and Myles present an emotionally nuanced and musically adventurous composition.
