Rubi Ate the Fig’s New International Groove

Tags: rubi ate rubi

Rubi Ate the Fig is a multicultural collaborative indie project that debuted in 2018 with the EP Caress the Moon. That record introduced an international group of master musicians that blends elements of Western pop music with the traditional sounds of the Middle East. The band is the brainchild of Israeli-American singer-songwriter Sharon Eliashar, born in Jerusalem and raised in the Southern California desert of Palm Springs.

Since their debut, Rubi Ate the Fig has released a handful of singles and their full-length 2022 album Desert Electric. Eliashar works with a diverse and eclectic crew from across the world. With no intended political stance, by the simple virtue of existing they make a bold statement of hope.

"As an American Israeli, it has been an honor and a mutual respect for me to record and play with Palestinians, an Egyptian, and a Jordanian."

“In the Garden” is the latest single from Rubi At the Fig, available worldwide via all major streaming services. The song opens on an organic acoustic bass and drum groove, as a percussive ensemble of traditional Middle Eastern instruments and classical Arabian strings gradually slides into the mix. On the mic, Sharon offers an epic love poem told in mystical imagery across cinematic desert scenes.
